Model train manufacturer Fleischmann presented at the model railway exhibition in Utrecht a beautiful model railroad layout in N scale, which depicts the landscape on the river Moselle in Germany. The model in 1/160 scale is a replica of the German Koblenz-Trier Railway, located on the left (northern) bank of the river Moselle, connecting the cities of Koblenz and Trier. Trains are automatically controlled and shuttle on the two-track main line from the left side to the right side of the model railway layout every minute.

I’ve been to this area many years ago when I was serving in HM Forces. Spent ten days grape picking. Those hills were steep!! It is a truly beautiful area.

Reminds me of my mother's home in Germany. I'm sitting here in not so sunny California where I grew up. Spent several summers as a kid roming that valley visiting relatives.

Germany or California? Oh, poor you. You must be SO depressed, an ugly language spoken through the nose, irrational voters, murderous gun owners, cops that murder unarmed, innocent civilians, because they are black victims). Compared to a civilised country that cares for its citizens, healthcare, better education, better housing and transport. I feel so sorry for you, can't you escape?

A really magnificent layout and beautiful train setups, but I certainly would like to see a panoramic view of the of the entire layout and occasionally cameras that follow the trains.

Pretty accurate Layout with the Pünderich Viaduct. I have to admit that this layout and the one of the Bullay bridge inspired me very much for my own layout in H0. The lenght of the coal trains is pretty impressiv and yes in the 60's and 70's the "Kanonenbahn" was a main suppling line for the iron works in Saarland and Luxembourg

The layout, depicting the Mosel Valley is superb. But filming the tiny N-scale trains too close is hopeless. Wider views of the valley, with the trains near the river, are beautiful indeed.

I only wish i can see over all layout, as for other people being critical about electrical lines etc, they need to grow up.

My nephew picked grapes in the Moselle Valley in the summers of 1975/76/77. He said it looked very much how he remembered it. I think the whole thing is amazing.

I have cruised the Moselle river on a boat and flown it in a helicopter, and I guess this is a nice layout, but it is hard to tell when all you see are trains going by a camera with no view of the complete layout.

I love the catenary and its just a pity that the pantographs are not raised and under the wires. I realise that these are fiddly but they look so good when done well.

An excellent layout. I think I will incorporate vineyards in to my next French layout, they do look such a fantastic vision. Lots of rows of baby wine in the making. Yes, I must have vineyards next time, and also on my new British outline layout that is going to have the countryside changed to hills with sun aspect, and no frost traps. If I cannot teach about viticulture and wine, at least I can model it.

Rolling stock from many eras and nationalities, while modern trains run around with all pantographs down. Somewhat confusing 🤔😉 The landscape has a nice level of detail, though.

La vallée de la Moselle est bien reproduite avec ses coteaux et vignobles. Pour les trains, les décors sont superbes. Des vues plus élargies auraient été plus favorables. On ne voit que des tronçons.

The overhead lines are set: good. The electric locomotives ride with their pantographs cautiously folded down. Not so good even if it might be wise in a public exhibition context.

@@raffica26 please elaborate. While I do have a couple of electric locos I've never had ghe chance to run them with the overhead lines. I've seen videos where everything seems go be just fine

@@Shadowtiger2564 This is N gauge. It is also a layout regularly carried for exhibitions. Being moved and probably partially dismantled and reassembled each time. It needs lots of attention and accuracy to have something properly working, fine tuning would not only be required for the overhead lines but for each and every pantograph. However you still run a good risk of something going wrong and then there would be damage irreparable at the time and the place. Or taking some time while the attraction cannot be run. With N gauge there is a higher risk of wobbling, what adds to that risk in general. Although these overhead lines are robust. (Hence they neither look as good as others.) My experience with our exhibitions is that we have to aim for a smooth and constant operation. For module events that would theoretically also mean the review of each and every rolling stock that in practice only happens completely at smaller sized events. There is so much to do for an event, overhead line / panto calibration would just be on top of that. ----- A compromised approach to this could be to have the pantograph 9/10th open. Some do it with lines attached that are difficult to see, or I have even seen solutions with warm wires inside (even in N). Still that is not fully optimal and require an enormous work for each loco. And cost. And it is mostly doable in H0 or a bigger scale. Also if a locomotive changes direction you would need to change this by hand (in most cases). These are also less likely to be managable for a bigger rolling stock. Unless you have 2 fanatics focusing on just this. ----- I have the same dilemma at home, how to address this issue. 🙂But I definitely have other priorities even for my layout.

This was a very strange video because you kept showing one piece of track and a bunch of train. So this entire exhibit is just one little piece of track and a bunch of trains? Where is the rest of the layout? Very unenjoyable footage and very noisy.

Beautiful layout. But why are the electric locomotives running with the pantographs retracted?
@Genius_at_Work
@Genius_at_Work Жыл бұрын
Probably to avoid Damage. A Pantograph getting caught on a slightly misplaced Mast can rip down a good Portion of Catenary. At least in H0 Scale, N Scale may be light enough, that the Train gets stuck immediately and only damages the Pantograph itself and the affected Mast.
