这首歌背后是一个伤感又无奈的爱情故事，说的是一位真诚又善良的大学生男孩远赴雪域高原的偏远地区做支教，学校里有一位女老师偷偷的爱上了男孩，可是女老师深知自己身患重病，所以她选择把这份爱藏在心里，不久后学校放假了，男孩回到了自己的家乡，女老师觉得她的身体已经支撑不到男孩返校的时候了，她又不想带着遗憾离开这个世界，于是她一个人独自翻过雪山想要去找男孩，她心里想着她一定能够见到他对他说那三个字，她还要带着他去看最美丽的格桑花，只是好遗憾啊女老师最后还是倒在了雪山上，当意识失去的最后一刻，女老师心里想着这一世她和男孩的缘份已经尽了，她希望如果有一天男孩经过这里的时候，能够看到她身上开出的格桑花
