It was actually the opposite. He wanted a male vocalist but couldn’t find someone good enough, so he sung it himself.

@Scahlen already said it but like they said; Raito's goal was to be different from the other VNs with OP music by composing and writing a song specifically to be sung by a Male Vocalist ( to deviate from the norm of having a Female Vocalist do these OPs) but Raito could not really find a male vocalist to fit his vision up until he sung it himself.

@工具 Strive had a full demo and tons of footage, we have under 10 screenshots of melty. UNIST PC port was announced two weeks before it was released, so I wouldn't be surprised if melty ends up the same. As for generic; I'm really not sure what you mean, it shares an art style with two other games. In my eyes, the look of UNIST and DFCI are an evolution of the style melty tried to go for at the time, just seems natural that it'd adopt the style itself.
