The three of a pair on the left, is me, my twin, and my best friend. I am in middle, my best friend in the front, and by brother at the rear. It was the first time the 3 of us saw each other in about 6 months. It was a damn good day together.

Came over from UK a few years ago travelled behind N&W No.611 Greensboro to Roanoke saw this superb machine in the museum there. Oh also managed a ride behind Big Boy from Ogden and recently 1309 in Cumberland. Happy days may be back soon in Albuquerque for the 4-8-4. Someone commented about seeing this working soon, you’d need the Norfolk Southern Corporation to foot the bill to get it going like Union Pacific do with their locos. We are more lucky in Britain as there a lot smaller but still require half a million POUNDS STERLING to renovate these machines!

As for all of those comments as to where it should be, It was only on loan for 5 yrs then to be returned here where it has been since the 1950s. The NMOT got it when NW was switching to diesel and scrapping all steam. If NMOT hadn't saved it, the scrappers torch would have destroyed it back then. It is home where it belongs, been here longer than NW ever used it in service. It has a place under the big roof and will likely be back under cover when they get to moving things around again. I personally wasn't enthused about it being loaned out, as all to often once items get out of your possession it can be problems getting them back, and then the costly legal battle to get it back where it belongs. I have learned this the hard way too often with my equipment collection. We no longer will ever loan out any items again!

When I visited this museum back in the late 70's the most interesting item to me was a 1930'2 Jaguar SS100 that was stashed away in a shed. Awaiting restoration?

@@MidwesternRailfan-jx5pe Some think it should be in Roanoke , Va because it was built in Roanoke at the now closed by Norfolk Southern, East End Shops. Many of these heavy "Y" freight locomotives worked on sections away from Roanoke. The "A" and "J" N&W locomotives were more likely to be in Roanoke for servicing and passing thru going east and west. "A" 1218, another very powerful steam locomotive is on display in Roanoke. "J" 611 lately spends more time in Pennsylvania.
