ALL Steam locos are subject to the FRA 15 year inspection and rebuild rule. And it is a good one. These things have the potential to be incredibly dangerous. I suspect that would be the minimum 611 needs. I do hope she gets all she does need and can be returned to service.

I was mighty proud to experience this beauty on one of its runs through Bedford, Virginia. Being on the Bridge Street Bridge as it passed underneath. The majesty of that beautiful whistle as she blasted steam near the bridge. Quite a magical sight indeed.

My favorite engine of all time, designing a layout around the Powhatan Arrow. One of the most robust and efficient steam locomotives ever. Wish that era never ended, hope one day I can ride on one of these.

What a sight indeed. She came past Bococks crossing, Irving switch, and fast by my home at Thaxton on the way to Bedford. I saw on the news that they're going to fire her up again. "Bout time.

Cool! The wailing of the whistle has a almost surround sound effect in my headphones. This is very enjoyable. Thanks for uploading.

One mighty fine engine...and tons of power coupled with great lines. 80,000lbs of tractve effort and 5100 drawbar horsepower....nothing but power and speed. She'll be back someday.

@thediremoose found out the issue with 611 is the boiler needs to be upgraded or something like that to some 'regulations'...otherwise she's road in road worthy condition, one reason they've been moving her all over the place lately as well. I sure sure hope we get to see her again one day.

That excursion most likely would have either been Greensboro or Salisbury,NC to Lynchburg and back.

Yes, turnaround was Lynchburg...but I don't remember the point of origin. By the way, the road crossing at the beginning no longer exists.

Awesome! I hope we get to see her again now that NS has decided they want to run some steam for promo reasons! Maybe in 2012 for their 30th anniversary! Thumbs up!

To me it looks more like a NYC J3a Dreyfuss Hudson than a N&W Class J but its still cool they used a steamer in that movie instead of diesels on the head of that train :)

Anybody notice the steam locomotive in 'The Iron Giant' looks and sound suspiciously like a Class J?

Don't mean to steal the spotlight but can't wait to see the Southern 4501 eventually run on this line.

It is like Bev Fitzpatrick said, " Its time to stop dreaming and time to start doing." Open up your wallets and let this beautiful beast free again. Fire Up 611!!!
