I saw an interview where Ren said he was heavily influenced by BDP and KRS One. Ren definitely had that East Coast flow back back in the day. So underrated as an MC.

Ren's flow is fucking awesome. Definitely favorite memeber of NWA.

He was better killed than everyone else... He should've made it big.. Imo, his name wasn't the best. Don't get me wrong Mc Ren is a pretty cool name, but the whole Mc thing ended up dying out...

I think when he was with the NWA team he had the support he needed as far as production. When ODB broke from WU Tang he came out with some genuine hits with the support of people like RZA and Pharrell. MC Ren had Final Frontier, but that wasn't really hitting in my opinion. Finally Ren had a hard as hell image; total no nonsense; I think it's hard to market that. 50 cent pulled it off with club bangers and a whole lot of production support. 50 cents voice didn't come across as masculine as Ren's did, and that might have actually helped. D.O.C. had a similar voice to Ren's, but his material was not all about being hard. He had a variety of ways to approach material; not just with hardness. Then again, maybe I need to give Ren's solo material another listen. From what I recall, however, it's not as fun to listen to a whole Ren album as it is to listen to Return to the 36, or No One Can Do it Better. I think going solo is not for everyone. "never will a brother like me go solo" -Chuck D.

I saw "Straight Outta Compton", and was like... "huh, wonder if NWA is any good". The first time I ever listened to their first album the full way through was in 2016. I WAS AMAZED. So good. Incredible group! And I'm learning this YEARS after they were making music. I have been MISSING OUT! This song is a GEM, my fav on the whole album!
