Thank you. When I was single, I was just like your father - I listened to Chinese every second of my spare time. I still listen as much as possible, but I've made it a habit to turn off my audio when my family's in the room. 😁

Confidence is hard for many of us, including me. Speaking out loud as much as possible is the only way to increase your confidence. I still make tons of mistakes when I speak Chinese, but I've learned to not worry about them too much. Native speakers make lots of mistakes when they speak, too, so it's natural for non-native speakers to make mistakes. Just keep speaking, and your confidence will grow more than you can imagine 👍👍👍
It's great that you've decided to get back on track with your learning. We all lose motivation from time to time. The important thing is to pick it up again. I'm sure you'll do much better this time 💪💪💪
Thanks for pointing out how I could improve my spoken Chinese 😄 Sometimes, I simply can't resist saying some of the stuff I read 😂 I hope you get a lot out of your shadowing practice 👍

Your Mandarin accent is so good, The most difficult part when I speak English is I often forget what I am trying to convey to the listeners and the conversation ends awkwardly. 😅 And I always stutter and repeat the same sentence over and over again, That makes me feel extremely frustrated. 🥹
@BrettLEnglish28 күн бұрын
I'm glad you're receiving so much benefit from the course. Forgetting what you want to say is really common. The fastest way to improve the situation is by doing tons of speaking practice. Every day, spend about 3-5 minutes a few times a day just speaking out loud. Imagine you're having the type of conversations you'd be having in real life. As you'll be under no pressure, you'll be better able to focus on expressing yourself. After about a week or so, you'll be significantly better than you currently are. I used this method myself with Chinese. It's great!

Yes, it can. The trick is to make it feel fresh by "playing" with it. For instance, you can vary your tone of voice or the emotion you use when you do it. You can also vary the speed you speak or who you copy. That'll make it easier to persist with.
Wow! You're such a serious student 💪💪💪 Remember that it's okay to speed up the rate of speech to a speed that suits your English listening ability ☺️ Also, remember to listen actively. After you've listened once or twice, see if you can remember the next sentence. That'll keep it interesting. Keep up the great work!

@BrettLEnglish28 күн бұрын
I don't have a podcast at the moment. You could listen to Deep Dive with Ali Abdaal - it's a really good podcast.
There's probably no simple answer to this question. There are two elements to consider: who do you want to sound like and how will people judge you. If you want to sound like a particular person, then you can copy their pronunciation. If you worry that people will judge negatively, then you might want to choose someone else to copy.

Hong Kong's a really nice place. I've been there quite a few times. I especially like the food and convenience. Habits take a long time to change. each new word learned correctly opens up opportunities. 我唸word,但google一直辨識成world,也看了很多其他視頻,無法改善。如果朗跟讀遇到瓶頸,應如何克服?
@BrettLEnglish20 сағат бұрын
The first step would be to record yourself saying "word" and "world". Then listen to them while wearing earphones. See if you're pronouncing it correctly. If it's not correct, copy someone's pronunciation and listen to it until you're close to the native-speaker pronunciation. Also, voice recognition software often doesn't recognize a single word, so Google could easily mishear "word" as "world", so be sure to say it in a sentence.

@BrettLEnglish27 күн бұрын
For learning speaking, phonetic alphabets (IPA, KK) are not necessary, especially now that you can just listen to pronunciation on your phone. The most important thing is to listen to correct pronunciation and speak as much as possible while trying to imitate that pronunciation.
我第一次聽到"歡樂三國志" 還是從這個外國老師的影片分享才知道的... (我汗顏 ^^") 讓我都好奇想去聽聽看了; 但我已太多 pending issues on hands... no extra time allow me do other things; who can teach me how to be more efficient to deal with all of them?! (sigh)
