You know it's part of a guy's DNA to just jump in without reading the instructions.

Ha! True dat! I just like to see how intuitive the next Yaesu is.

@@n4hnhradio it is a bit confusing for us newbies that have no intuition yet...lol

It comes with time. The more you work with radios from a specific manufacturer, the more your intuition develops. I still recommend reading the manual, but I make the videos to act as a companion to the manual.

Just installed my FTM-500 in my car last week. So far the radio is much much easier to use than the ftm-400 which has now become my shack vhf/uhf radio. 73 W6QX

Same here. The FTM-400 is my base station and the FTM-500 will eventually replace my ICOM mobile. I have more videos in the edit queue.

@@n4hnhradio there were some things I really disliked about the ftm-400 as a mobile rig. It was really hard to change the power level, tone and brightness. The big advantage of having a speaker and the mic connection on the head made an under the seat installation viable. I used a Lido mount and have a very nice installation.

I programmed one of the mic buttons to cycle the power level on the FTM-500. There will be a future video about it. The P4 button is programmed to change the power level on my FTM-400. But Yaesu didn’t assign a button on the FTM-500D to change power. Unless you found something I didn’t. I’m disappointed that the unused A button couldn’t be assigned for something.

Thanks but to much guessing

Not really much guessing. The menu is intuitive. But I still recommend that you read the manual. I was simply demonstrating that the menu isn’t difficult.
