You sure do need the FAA obstruction lights when you have a low flying neighbor like that LOL!

Actually when I applied for FAA obstruction clearance the result was non obstruction or the need to light, but if I did it should be to XX standard - have a great new year all!

@@hellozerohellozero Depends on how close you're to an Airport and if you're within a TCA. With bush pilots flying that low I'd keep it lite !

Holy moly nice tower! A real up grade to the TV mast. But it would have been easier and only 200 miles to bring it down to Calgary! Good luck!

Appreciate it Steve - hope all fine in Bulgaria - a country I hope to visit sometime - the push up mast is safely down, as is the Hex and now reconfiguring for the MAG106 tower -

Most welcome. Bulgaria is a relatively free country. Lots of open land and lots of trees and mountains. Currently working in the UK at the moment but will need some advice on buying a radio receiver on my return. Maybe you can suggest. Well done on your antennas. That 106 ft tower is a beauty.

Hi Steve - not really up on the latest and greatest but Im using a couple of new Air Spy HF Discovery + SDR's which as long as you control the attenuator, agc and gain and maybe a little RF filter are pretty good bang for the buck - i still love my old R75 from Icom but they are becoming long in the tooth and issues start to arise which are out of my repair lack of expertise - 73

How is the hex beam working at that height? The far field plot shows some peculiar elevations after 40 ft.

@@donausmus4281 hi - it appears to be fine - its more of a sectorial antennae with a broad nose but pretty effective front to back - more importance here due to local within 1000ft qrm - the height has helped in that regard on 20 but on 10m its a tadge worse s/n wise from this rather unpleasant switch mode noise - no other issues so far apart from adding a soft copper 18ga stop wraps where the per band wires pass thru supporting rings - this stops the wires shifting and fibre glass “moving” - copper wire is wrapped around antenna wire 7 turns, tight enough to grip then a couple of turns thru the ring a same turns as the wire exits- have a great day

should never have your coax cables running along the floor because they will not last long the damp gets in. just hoist them off the ground on some poles and you be fine from m7byf or better still bury them

Appreciate the feedback Steven.,and wanted to respond why this wasnt done for this bespoke location - The cables are acutally drain ducted for the majoirty of the run but not from the short distance from the base of the mast to the duct entry point - We had to balance the physical and environmental issues here - Above ground coaxs on poles will become targets for Moose who tend, when spooked can run crazy thru the woods at 20mph, and a Ton of Moose moving at that speed has a lot of Kinetic energy - so the pole and canterary would have to be at least say 3m above ground which is not feasiable - I dont know why but Ive not had any trampling damage to date and they avoid the guys - the other issue is the ground is frozen for a fair percentage of the year and unless the ground is cleared and completely removed of stones/Birch roots then on freeze thaw they move and can (do) penetrate cables, and my ground is glacial morraine with a lot (a lot!) of rocks - weighing it all up Ive stayed above on ground and the coax Im using is the original LMR400 and remains in very good shape. I could add a small section of above ground duct but then the coax tends to freeze in like concrete....Sad to say the push up mast is no more and in storage and replaced with an in situ with another 90ft or so square section tower.
