Ditto! I listen to WMPR weeknights. I am absolutely astounded that brothers and sisters intelligent enough to see thru the b.s. being shoved over talk radio aren't challenging it! I know there are a lot of very conscious brothers and sisters in Jackson, including many attorneys and retired judges. I knew students here who educated me. For a whole year, I listened to far too many, least conscious residents, expressing themselves about critical issues impacting this city. Consequently, folks in the legislature and the governor's office, apparently, were misled to think they could walk right over the citizens! A "$675/hr" attorney was retained by a faction of the City Council, with a white, Republican President, to challenge the wise decision of the Mayor, to award the garbage collection bid/contract to a company, that just happened to be owned by a brother out of New Orleans. The winning bid, reportedly, saved the city almost a $ million/year and the bid was almost a $ million/yr, less than the next lowest bid! What I found ironic and very suspect was that the council brought suit challenging the contract, rather than the next lowest bidder, who happens to be company with contracts to collect garbage in multiple states! The Council, by statute, which I attempted to warn them several times over the radio, is prohibited from suing the Mayor, since both represent the city and the city couldn't sue itself! Seems to me at $675/hour, a representative knew, or should have known, the council couldn't sue the Mayor. Subsequently, the presiding judge ruled what 9 Justices on the State's Supreme Court could easily have decided and spared the city and it's citizens unnecessary lingering confusion and conflict! I wonder if the next lowest bidder had more competent counsel and wisely decline? I also wonder if the lowest bidder found the council's subjective conclusion that the lowest bid, based upon opinions, apparently, not offered by an expert (s), too flimsy to challenge, when the lowest bid was decidedly, much lower than the next lowest. It is a sad situation, when 3 DEM members of the council, with a REPUB President of the Council, within a 85% black and DEM City, go off on a year long tangent, dividing the residents over garbage, while both the council and the Mayor have so many other pressing matters to address. I noticed, too, that one of the local t.v. news stations, APPEARED TO ME, to be have been fanning the dispute, by the type of coverage it provided. Since neither the state, nor the city, is obligated to pay plaintiffs' attorney, his $200,000+ fee, I wonder if one or more of the Council members are on the hoof to pay?

Roland we also have the black city counselor, city of Jackson MS, who stop the garbage pick up for 3 weeks. Especially Strokes & Banks (4 of them). Someone is paying them off. Richard's waste mgt. won in a blind bid, all the employees are black Jackson residents. The Mayor said we don't deserve that. It went to court and the judge said it never should have come there. I'm 79 from Las Vegas, by way of Michigan to live with my daughter. I go to court with her & Working Together Jackson. I'm here for the fight. We are not going to let these white folk get away with this.
@akilahbrooklyn8236
@akilahbrooklyn8236 Жыл бұрын
Sharon, Please don't patronize or insult the use of someone's intelligence by referencing the term 'blind bid' as a term for compliance. Blind Bids are more for private contracts, not for public contracts with the state and local districts. An open bid is required and it has to be approved to ensure that favoritism isn't being garnered towards a particular vendor. This is what happened in this case. For the record, Richard's Disposal has a horrible reputation in the state of Louisiana. A consumer approval score of 1, many customer complaints, not to mention many hazardous violations. To add insult to injury, they were trying to 'entrap' the city of Jackson into a long term contract. Nice use of the 'race card' to propel your argument. There are many other disposal companies that can hire residents of Jackson, MS considering, a majority of the residents are BK. This will be for the board to decide. Not the decision of one Mayor.

I am a life-long resident of Jackson, Ms. I think you can see the milquetoast response of this representative. This is the reason that the Neo-Confederates are so bold. Below is a letter that I wrote to the editor of the local paper. Voting is good and essential but black people need to use another tool in this consumer republic which is the dis-United States of America. We need more socially-conscious businesses in Mississippi to channel funds away from those owned by Neo-Confederates. The letter: "Are the citizens in Jackson, Ms., the majority of whom are black, being subjected to discrimination in the exercise of their civil or political rights? How is it that the white-majority state legislature, one that took 148 years to ratify the 13th Amendment, single out Jackson for the attachment of a slave patrol, state police force, to supply black bodies to the prison-industrial complex? How is that the citizens of every other city in Mississippi have control of their police force through local officials that they elect yet the spiritual descendants of the Ku Klux Klan have decided that they can erase the political rights of black people with impunity in Jackson? The time has come for woke people, people who are not conscientiously stupid or sincerely ignorant, to find and form businesses to serve as alternatives to those run or owned by elected officials like Rep. Trey Lamar and Governor Tate Reaves. We need to find effective ways to vote with our dollars as well as our ballots. The onslaught of legislative initiatives from ALEC and the Mississippi Center for Public Policy towards the creation of oligarchy, advanced and nurtured by corporations, will be relentless. The quality of our lives and our very existence depend upon becoming awake and staying woke with movement toward the common good and protection of the commons. "

Please get another spokes person. This person can't express what is going on. He thinks they are doing him a favor. He doesn't even know what questions to ask. He thinks that Jackson has some kind of unique problem that no other city has that they can't handle. This person didn't do his homework and needs to be replace with a more competent person. Sorry just my view. They started this with Eastpoint Ga.

I'm just as frustrated with this Senator as Roland is. After watching this I'm left questioning is this Sentaor really this dense or is he an Uncle Tom? It is quite plain to see that these Mississippi Republicans are using crime as an excuse to install the powergrab around the Capitol they've been plotting for.

@@TerryWhitley-ky4kh this isn't what Mississippi has to offer. Most people there are uniformed and the way the state is ran is all they know. Each time a forward thinking Black person comes forward, the White politicians silence them. Many are afraid of the politicians and don't know how to get the betterment they deserve.

From North Jackson to the Capital is where the nice homes, businesses & hospitals(VA) are!! I think the Governor is trying to take the Capital out of Hinds County!! If the Governor can get the Capital Police Officers to patrol North Jackson to the Capital, whose to his next move won't be trying to annex that area to the neighboring counties which are Rankin County where the Governor lives & Madison County!! Those two Counties connects to one another!!
