Like if a Jayce, vlad, or a Pyke play like garbage, they're doomed but if they play well early on, they won't be demolished. Vlad wants to scale safely with his sustained but got the outplayed at level 8. He was doing alright at level 3 but over comitted n died

What about if it's Malphite v. Pantheon? Even if the Pantheon is decently ahead in lane at 10min, at some point in the game, Pantheon just won't have the ability to kill Malphite with armor stacking, right? Not that this kind of example exists for every counter, but some counterplays become more evident as the game progresses and can offset an early lead.

Yuh but thats the reason u dont see those champs in high elo top very often. If u pick a stat check champ or low skill expression champ then im just gonna pick a champ that counters ur stat check. Morde vayne right, morde just kinda statchecks u and so does vayne. Vayne is better in this specific matchup and so she wins. Opposite in vayne vs malphite. She struggles vs malphite and malphite just kinda wins. If u play high skill expression champ and enemie counters with high skill express champ it becomes a question of is ur enemie good enough on that champ to counter u. Fiora aatrox right. I can play fiora vs aatrox main and i know i will lose because i simply dont play enough fiora to be good enough to win

In my understanding, the word “counter play” refers to actions that you can take generally against a champion. For example when you play against illaoi, avoid her E. Disengage if she ults multiple player. If you play against gangplank, dismantle the barrel. If you play against darius, kite him etc. To put it another way, the generally best move to take against that certain champ(for one to survive even when behind). I aint no native English speaker so I might probably be wrong😂

Ngl, i love playing nasus, especially on mid because i suck at top with almost anyone 😂, either way i get a meele mid (yone, yasuo) or an idiot ranged orianna not trying to push me, or an orianna who knows what to do with a rammus, either way, 2/3 chance i have fun in the game with midlane nasus, as long my middlaner is not a hyperagressive sweat lord ranged akshan/(any ranged character played agressivly) , i will always have fun on mid, and then there are the hyperagressive meele mids, who just comes on plate for bonus stacks 😂

The whole discussion about counterplay Naayil talked about in the beginning is the way it is with the assumption that you actually know how to play the game and not fall into traps left and right once you establish your lead. Most of those who naysay with "what if ___ happens" just don't realize that you set yourself up to fail or fall in league 70% of the time. I as someone who am playing league as my first genuine predominantly RTS pvp game, had a hard time understanding this concept for a while when I started. Its a strategy game for a major part. Yes there are champs that provide a more mechanical way to try to close out games, but they ALL start to fall off lategame unless its an ADC bcz crit. This means, after a certain point, mechanical outplays tend to matter less and less once the stat stick and teamfight/brawl stuff happens. I was raised on FPS games. So it was very frustrating for me to come to terms with the fact that many champs in league, both solo or synergy, require 3+ people to kill at certain amounts of leads. However, thats not really counterplay at that point. That is reacting rather thinking. To further hit home my point of the responsibility falling on you around 70% of the time to be a fact rather than an opinion. The highest reaching solo queuing ranked players on ladder all adopt a more methodical or adaptive-to-gamestate playstyle and then try to support the next most reliable player (that is not themself) in the game. And with this strategy they often can and do hit 80=90% winrates. They don't 100% winrate out mechanics everybody all the time. Which further shows that, a "counter play" becomes less relevant with time. Reinforcing the "counter strategy" narrative. Which... it is a strategy game afterall... sooo... And something, my opinion entirely and not entirely relevant... I hate riot trying to justify "mechanics" champs as being "hard" when its literally just "practice" (like anything in life) and then get to play a 100/10 times more valuable champion. Like... bruh, if y'all want to call-of-duty-ify league, f off and go play fps games. like the only one I can ever respect is lee sin. but he is watched like a hawk (tuah?) from the balance team.

I think soft counters and hard counters should be differentiated. Soft - enemy has like 60/40 advantage against you. Hard - it is more like 90/10. Like Morde vs Vayne. Vayne has to play blindfolded with her feet to lose lane to Morde.
