Back then when I did played league with Aatrox I had a special technique I called "The False Sweep". The False Sweep is just using his Q (Q2 or Q3 mostly) and using E at the very last second of the animation of the Q in the air. The technique is just for confusing the enemy to be hit by unexpected follow up poke damage or burn dashes/flashes.

One thing I like to do if I play on the upper base is to take krugs when the enemy top is freezing after trades because your passive healing is reduced to 25% against minions but gives you the full heal value against jungle camps. This way you still get some gold and xp (although it is selfish because you steal it from your jungle) as well as healing to avoid getting ganked during the freeze and being healthy and there in time when the enemy crashes the wave to your turret.
