Nabam Rebia Assures to Raise NH-415 Delay in Parliament, Criticizes executing agency
Itanagar, October 07: Lone Rajya Sabha MP from Arunachal Pradesh, Nabam Rebia, expressed his dismay over the sluggish progress of the NH-415 Package B during his visit today. He assured that he would bring up the issue in the upcoming Parliament session.
Rebia criticized the construction authority for the poor implementation of Package B, which covers the 11.3-km stretch from Papunallah to Nirjuli. He stated that he would meet Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, to discuss the delay and press for the termination and blacklisting of the contracting agency involved.
During his visit, Rebia was accompanied by the PWD executive engineer, representatives from the contracting agency, and several officers to inspect the ongoing work. The NH-415, which was envisioned as a key thoroughfare connecting the twin capital cities of Naharlagun and Itanagar, has faced severe criticism due to the deteriorating condition of the Naharlagun-Nirjuli stretch. Commuters continue to struggle with potholes, waterlogging, and mud, making travel on this road hazardous.
Funded by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), the project has been plagued by delays in fund releases, often due to the failure to submit utilization certificates with proper documentation. Despite the ambitious scope of NH-415, Package B and the adjoining Package C, which covers the 7.464-km stretch from Nirjuli to Banderdewa, remain incomplete after more than three years. Residents of Naharlagun, Nirjuli, Doimukh, and Banderdewa continue to suffer as a result.
