The Farthest Mosque (Al-Masjid-ul-Aqs-a) was built many years after the death of Muhammad.
In Yusuf Ali's commentary on Q17:1 we read: "The Farthest Mosque must refer to the site of the Temple of Solomon in Jerusalem..."
Yusuf Ali said that Al-Masjid-ul-Aqs-a was the second Temple of Solomon, but the temple had been completely destroyed in 70 AD, i.e. 550 years before the alleged time of the Miraj in 622 AD.
According to Bukhari, Muhammad visited Bait Al Maqdis in Jerusalem, but at that time there was no mosque at all in Jerusalem.

Narrated Ibn `Abbas: Regarding the Statement of Allah" "And We granted the vision (Ascension to the heavens) which We made you see (as an actual eye witness) was only made as a trial for the people." Why do Muslims lie? What is taqiyya and why does it matter? Ask a Muslim and these are the typical responses: 1. Taqiyya is only for the Shia 2. It's only for defense 3. It's not allowed 4. Christians also do Taqiyya 5. Taqiyya is not lying 6. You can't possibly understand it 7. I've never heard of it 8. There's no such thing 9. It's only when your life is threatened 10. It's only during times of war Islam is a religion of war and its core strategy is deception. The doctrine of deception is called "taqiyya" by the Shia and "muda’rat" by the Sunni. The general term for all Muslims is "hiyal" i.e. "legalistic trickery". Taqiyya comes straight from Quran 2:225: "Allah will not hold you accountable for unintentional oaths, but for what you intended in your hearts. And Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Forbearing." Also, in Quran 3:28, the word for "precaution" is تقية which is Taqiyya according to the qiraat by Ya'qub al-Yamani. "Let not believers take disbelievers as allies rather than believers. And whoever does that has nothing with Allah, except when taking precaution (تقية i.e. Taqiyya) against them in prudence. And Allah warns you of Himself, and to Allah is the [final] destination." All Muslims do taqiyya and tap dance. I have never met one who actually answers your questions. They are behaving like Allah. Quran 3:54 says "ومكروا ومكر الله والله خير الماكرين" "And they deceived and Allah deceived, and Allah is the best the deceivers." Taqiyya has 2 forms: (1) defense against religious persecution or (2) jihadist weapon against unbelievers. Muslims will always insist on the first form when asked about taqiyya and hide the second form from the kuffar. It is the second form of taqiyya which is practised every single day on KZbin. There are 3 main strategies in taqiyya (or muda'rat or hiyal): (1) Muruna - “Flexibility” to blend in with the enemy or surroundings, like drinking beer or being tolerant of gay people, believing that it is permissible to deceitfully behave in an un-Islamic manner if it serves the greater goal of advancing Islam. (2) Tawriya - “Creative lying” or doublespeak where the speaker says something that means one thing while the listener thinks it means something else, during which the speaker’s words technically support the listener’s alternate meaning. (3) Kitman - Telling only part of the truth. For example if a Muslim were to say that jihad refers to an “internal spiritual struggle” when actually only a few passages in the Quran refer to it that way and the vast majority of verses refer to jihad as "forceful" or "external" violent, coercive jihad to spread the religion. The ultimate aim of taqiyya (or muda'rat or hiyal) is to mislead. Muslims don't regard misleading statements as lying. The rest of the world do. So when you speak to a Muslim, expect him to mislead you. Misrepresentation, dissembling, gaslighting, doublespeak, etc. are 100% ok by Muslims and sanctioned by Allah and the "Best Example for Humanity" Muhammad. An example of taqiyya is "Islam is a religion of peace". After intense cross examination, and if you're lucky, the Muslim will admit that what he actually means is "Islam is a religion of peace AFTER the whole world converts to Islam (and the Islam of his sect and his particular teacher)." There is never actual truth from a Muslim, not in the way Christians and other non-Muslims define "truth". Muslims just regard all sorts of intentional misrepresentation as permissable and not lying. Muslims are allowed and obligated to lie to spread Islam. Almost any kind of lie is permissible. Muslims can even tell you lies about Islam, denying embarrassing verses in the Quran or Hadith and even doing taqiyya about taqiyya (“inception” lying). For example, disguising hostility as grievance. “It was in self-defence”, Muslims say, when their religion has killed 700m-1.2b people in its spread over 14 centuries with 80m-400m just in India alone. A recent example of taqiyya which you can view on KZbin is Muslim apologist Mohammed Hijab saying to a group of women: "You can lie to your spouse. The Prophet says you can do it. It doesn’t have to be a white lie. It can be a black lie." (June 2023) The best reference for taqiyya is from someone regarded by most Muslims as the greatest Imam of all - Hamid al-Ghazali. In the treatise on Sharia Law “Reliance of the Traveller”, Hamid al-Ghazali, the most renowned Sunni theologian of the Seljuq period (1038-1194) was quoted as saying “Speaking is a means to achieve objectives. If a praiseworthy aim is attainable through both telling the truth and lying, it is unlawful to accomplish it through lying because there is no need for it. When it is possible to achieve such an aim by lying but not by telling the truth, it is permissible to lie if attaining the goal is permissible..., and obligatory to lie if the goal is obligatory. ...One should compare the bad consequences entailed by lying to those entailed by telling the truth, and if the consequences of telling the truth are more damaging, one is entitled to lie …”. Most non-Muslims are completely bamboozled by this. Especially Christians. Little old Christian ladies would chide other Christians for lying about Christianity even if it was done to "protect" or "spread" the religion. Most non-Muslims just cannot compute that a religion can allow and even oblige its followers to lie to defend and spread the religion. They keep defending Muslims and insist that "all religions teach honesty" and "all religions teach peace". It’s quite comical and sad. Can you imagine having a taqiyya spouting Muslim as a co-worker or boss or family member or politician? Can you imagine an entire nation made up mostly of Muslims like Pakistan or Iran or Saudi Arabia? Can you imagine all that taqiyya dissembling where every sentence by every person is forked-tongue doublespeak obfuscation? No wonder most of the worst nations are from this coercive cult. Muslims lie and deflect with taqiyya because they know Islam is man-made fraud. This is their favorite SOP: 1. Claim immediately you’re taking things out of context. 2. Use abrogated verses like 2-256 "No compulsion in religion" 3. Insult you or your intelligence e.g. "You know nothing ..." 4. Declare hadiths to be "daif" even when they are SAHIH 5. Change the topic e.g. to their favorite "God can't have a son" 6. Use fake & debunked excuses like the "wajadaha" excuse for Quran 18-86 7. Use whaboutism by bringing up similar things in other religions 8. “It’s a metaphor. It’s a metaphysical thing.” 9. Strawman the opposing argument (e.g. Christians have 3 gods) and then “win” 10. Declaring "allahualem" (Allah knows best) the Islamic “get out of jail” card 11. When caught, say: "There are some things humans are not meant to understand." 12. Or they’ll just start yelling ad hominems like "Islamophobe" "hater" "pig" to change the topic to you. All Muslims do lie, mislead and tap dance. I have never met one who actually answers your questions. They are behaving like Allah. Well, according to Ibn Ishaq, Muhammad described Buraq as the animal 'used by prophets before him'. He may have thought the Zoroastrian story was in the Bible. Like he thought the story of 'the baby Jesus speaking in the cradle and making little clay birds' was in the Bible. Or the daft stories about 'Solomon and his army of birds including the cute talking hoopoe' were in the Bible. The man was illiterate. To put your doubts to rest, I have read the Quran more than once (I have three translations at home, one English-Arabic with commentary by well-known scholar), I have the 9-vol English-Arabic set of Sahih al-Bukhari and have read countless other hadiths online, I have read countless tafsirs by Ibn Kathir, Ibn Abbas, al-Jalalayn, Maududi and others, the commentaries by al-Tabari, and I have and read a couple of Sharia books. I also have The Sealed Nectar and Stories of the Prophets (signed by Tariq Ramadan!). I have also read numerous academic books on the Quran and Early Islam and have been studying this field for about 20 years. I simply comment in these videos because they never provide any historical background as to how the religion formed and developed and what sources were used to compose the texts. For example, this particular video is about the night journey. In pre-Islamic Zoroastrianism we find a story of a winged horse-like creature with a human head. It their texts (The Book of Arda Viraf), a saintly priest Arda Viraf made a night journey to heaven under the guidance of angel Sarosh. He passed from one utopia (heaven) to another and reached the presence of Ormazd, the great deity of the whole universe. He saw the heavens and how happy the inhabitants were, Ormazd commanded him to return and tell people what he saw and to tell his followers to pray five (5) times a day. Sound familiar? Furthermore, the video talks about al-Aqsa, the furthest mosque, which if you read Muslim historical sources, never quoted in such videos, you'll learn: The early Muslim historian and biographer Waqidi writes in his The Life of Muhammad (al-Waqidis Kitab al-maghazi: Rizwi Faizer, Amal Ismail, Abdulkader Tayob, Andrew Rippin. He donned his ihram at the furthest mosque (al-masjid al-Aqsa), which was below the wadi [Page 959] on a remote slope. It was the place of prayer of the Messenger of God when he was in al-Jiirrana. As for the closest mosque, a man from the Quraysh built it and he marked that place with it." Another early historian, Azraqi, described in his book Mecca and its Antiquities a discussion between two men named Muhammad ibn Tariq and Mujahid. Muhammad said, “Mujahid and I agreed on Jiranah, because he informed me the Prophet used to pray at the Al-Aqsa Mosque located on the shore of the river bed. The other nearby mosque, the Al-Adna Mosque, was built by a man from the Quraysh tribe.” Another early Mecca historian, Ibn Ishaq al-Fakihi noted in his book Ancient and Modern Mecca that Muslims who wanted to perform the Umrah would first purify themselves at the neighboring villages of Tanim and Jiranah. The Al-Adna Mosque in Tanim was significant because Muhammad’s wife Aisha had purified herself there, and the Prophet himself had prayed in the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jiranah. The highly respected source, The Encyclopaedia of Islam. Vol. 7 (New ed. 2006 ed.). Brill. 2006. pp. 97-105. says "For this verse, tradition gives three interpretations: The oldest one, which disappears from the more recent commentaries, detects an allusion to Muhammad's Ascension to Heaven. This explanation interprets the expression al-masjid al-aksa, "the further place of worship" in the sense of "Heaven" and, in fact, in the older tradition isra is often used as synonymous with miradj (see Isl., vi, 14). The second explanation , the only one given in all the more modern commentaries, interprets masjid al-aksa as "Jerusalem" and this for no very apparent reason. It seems to have been an Umayyad device intended to further the glorification of Jerusalem as against that of the holy territory. The above sources all indicate that the Al-Aqsa Mosque referred to by Muhammad in Quran 17:1 was the mosque in Jiranah.
