I’m an 80’s baby, 90’s kid. Watching the Knicks, wearing Starter jackets, buying NBA trading cards, reading Slam magazine, eagerly waiting for Eastbay catalog in the mail, playing basketball with my friends at school, getting up early in the morning for the Stuart Scott NBA highlights on ESPN (RIP). I’ve owned a lot of the shoes you mentioned. Various Jordan 11’s, the Air Much Uptempo (not the Air More), Olympic 180’s, Various Kamikaze 2’s, various Grant Hill 95s and 96s, various Fila Spaghettis, various Reebok Questions. These are shoes that I still wear to this day. I’m glad they’re still getting retro’d. I would also throw in the Air Zoom Flight 95s and Penny’s Air Penny line including the Flight One.

The 90s was the best year for sneakers. They released some of my all time favs including the AJ6, Nike Air Command Force, the Nike air Huarache, Nike air unlimited, cb94, and so much more. I think 1991 was probably the pinnacle for sneaker designs. While the tech wasn’t there yet in terms of comfort they were doing some unique things with pump technology and other uses of materials such as neoprene. Very innovative time. Today I feel lacks that creativity and the urge to break conventional boundaries by appealing more towards hype beast and street fashion culture.

Almost any models of any colorway were fresh. But the Dee Brown version was dope and also Michael Chang's Court Victory (citron colorway) * The Converse Aeroglide (Larry Johnson's very first signature sneaker) * Nike Air Raid as worn by Tim Hardaway in that Spike Lee Commercial in 1992.

Sadly this was when the sneaker wars were cooling off compared to the hot sneaker market of the previous decade. Still some innovation but nothing as innovative as the years 1987-1991 for all the brands. It is good for memories though if you are of a certain age, but the heated market had cooled around 1992. But during a 5 years span (1987-1991) all these brands were cramming as much technology inside a shoe as they could and selling them for high prices. Reebok had the ERS "Energy Return System", Hexalite, and the Pump. Converse had the "Energy Wave" and "React" juice. Asics had "Gel" technology, L.A. Gear had the "Airstream or Airsystem", and the their own version of the Pump called the "Rugulator", and of course the "catapult" and "L.A. lights". Adidas had "torsion" technology, Nike had "Air", "Airmax" and their own version of the Pump as well called the "Air pressure" It was a very innovative time in just a short amount of years span.

I just bought an original 95 kamikaze 2. The hexalite is insane. It has that huge ultra hexalite in the heel, and normal hexalite in the fore foot. It's a big shame Reebok puts in that fake hard rubber "hexalite" these day's. My favourite basketball shoes of the 90s are the Reebok pump blacktop battleground 1. Reebok pump 2 hi double pump. Reebok pump omni transit zone. LA gear catapult. Air jordan 6. British knights dymacel. Nike air command force. Nike air force 180. My favourite 90s band? That's got to be oasis. 🙌

The 90s were full of great shoes. I wish I remembered some of the their names because honestly they were constantly pushing the concepts. They weren't all winners but they just kept trying and kept the ideas flowing. Wish I remembered the shoe. It there was a NJ ike model that had a " harness" that could be taken off. And what Reebok was doing was amazing as well.

@ 5:30 I totally respect that you come at this topic from a sports centric/lifestyle POV but the Reebok BB4600, 5000, 5600, and 6600 were absolutely LEGENDARY in the thrash metal scene in this Era. Pantera, Megadeth, Metallica (to name a few) all loved the union jack high tops

And to answer your question: I was an Adidas/Reebok kid through and through 😅 Jordans were way too expensive and the only Nikes on my radar were the Air Max and the AF1 which were tough to find in rural Ontario

Great, great list. I absolutely loved the Patrick Ewings and L.A. Gears. My favorite band from that era was and still is, Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

The Air Jordan 11 and the Nike Foamposite 1 are the 2 most iconic basketball shoes of the 90's. They are also 2 of my favorite basketball shoes of all-time.

As a basketball & sneaker head born in '89, the 90s had so much swag & style for me, as I'm sure to many others... I enjoyed the Nike Air CB4 (Barkleys), Nike Air Penny IIs, Air Jordans 5s, 9s, 14s although my favourites are the He Got Game 13s, and just recently got the Fila Grant Hill 1s, which I love & seem to have sold a record number for a rookie player back in '95. Props for making this vid!

Awesome content! I agree the 90’s were just different. I grew up in the late 80’s and the 90’s it was a great time to be a kid. People rocking the dopest kicks that even today there’s demand for 90’s retro sneakers because they’re just dope.

I used to love The Grant Hills I bought every pair every year they came out all the way up to the threes and then they didn’t really make a four then I started wearing questions and then the answers then I start wearing Tims Man LeBron‘s all the way out till last year and now all I rock is Yeezy‘s

Shoes I miss from the 90's are the turf trainers. There were so many during that time and playing ball mostly on astroturf, they provided good traction but not too much grip so that you could mess up your knees.

I remember when the black Jordan 11s came out, they used to release shoes during the week too so people were skipping school to go to footlocker to get a pair. That summer was wild too cus people were definitely getting robbed for them all the time
