Nadal Backhands Get Increasingly More Absurd ● Beast Mode Rafa

6:41 How have I never seen this point before??? This is my new favorite “underground” Nadal point. My god. It was only in 2017 too so you’d think it’d be all over the place. That stumbling backhand pass, the forehand defense down the line… was he a little lucky? Yeah. But every shot technically went where he intended it to. Every shot in that point was great; they all landed deep in the court, or had a heavy angle to them, and Rafa’s last slice was straight on the line too. Great find. That Nadal slice return against Monfils is one of my favorites. How often do you see someone hit a winner with their back turned to the court, off of a serve?? On a crucial break point too? And the way the ball curved back into the court was so aesthetic. That Nadal pass vs Verdasco was awesome but I still think that rocket against Djokovic at Montreal should be #1. With Verdasco, most of the battle was just guessing right, whereas against Djokovic it was an entirely intended rally-ender where Rafa shrugged and said “let me hit this 100 mph and see if that works.” And he did it from an open stance, way off the court, with a super steep angle. Djokovic guessed right but the ball still whizzed past him.

Yep, that one was really insane! Good comment, I was really undecided between the Verdasco and Novak ones, that angle was too good though haha

Imo this is what completes rafa's game and makes it stand out from the other higher players: his ability to pull out that counter shot backhand passing where he looks to be on the defensive and then absolutely blasts through anyone 💪💪

I don't understand how Nadal's backhand is not discussed among the best. He has a very dependable and demolishing flat backhand, just as good as Djokovic's, but they constantly prop up Djoker's as the best two-handed backhand.
