You never fail. I sense a type of Saudade in his portrait work. The Chinese collection was " Yangtze- The Long River", 2006-2007. He notes: "I wanted to respond to what I found and felt. Although unconcious, it seems no coincidence that I travelled up river, against the current". "I saw a reflection of all mankind".

Man, I've been enjoying your videos. I'm fairly new to photography and this is about the only channel I've come across that I feel is great, honest and genuine. Playing guitar and taking photos, there's a lot of similarities. But more so, their online communities haha. Cool, this clown doesn't actually talk about music, he's showing off his corny pedals and Kemper amp. Cool, this guy doesn't actually talk about photography, he's talking about gear every video. This channel I feel like, It reminds me of music theory in a lot of ways. There's no rules, there's guidelines and suggestions to help you make better decisions. I'm no Jazz player, but it's the only music I enjoy practicing. I enjoy taking a Jazz standard and crafting a solo over the entire song, playing the changes. Using creative phrasing is a big part of it. Taking photos, you wanna make something cool, you wanna tell a cool story, you want to feel the picture just like music. Anyway, that's my bit, thanks for being awesome.

I opened the comment section to post something like this, read yours, and you pretty much say it all. I recently got back into photography after a long break (years), and initially subscribed to a bunch of KZbin channels. It was fun for awhile learning about current gear and software and such, but at this point this channel is the only one I really need.

Nadav is prbably the best commercial photographer working today(IMHO). I saw a video interview with him talking about the Chinese series, can't remember how/where I found it but it was fascinating, showed how humble and yet dedicated to his vision he is.

Thank you so much for introducing me to Nadav Kandar's photography. As I watched your story about Kandar I came to think about a Swedish photographer, Lars Tunbjörk. Thunbjörk's work isn't as pleasing and beautiful as Kandar's, perhaps more like Golding's but his images really hit me. When I see Tunbjörk's images of places and people at a supermarket or on vacation I realise the absurdities in our lives and the world around us.

I forgot to mention that you can see that Tunbjörk clearly was inspired by William Eggleston and another Swedish photographer Christer Strömholm.

Hi Alex, Great to see another photographer's work especially this one from Nadav Kandars. His photos are still, i agree with you he has his own style and there is a message here. It's ok to have a photo with Blur motion and it doesn't have to be perfect, and i like that his photos tell a story. The Black and White photos from South Africa were nice and the photo of the swimmer on the diving board, great composition. Also i liked the photo of Sir Michael Caine. Thanks again for sharing your passion and videos for us viewers, they do make a difference to my photography. 😃

About a year ago I started watching youtube photography videos. Within a week I had about 40 abos. After a certain amount of time, I either knew everything about a specific tool, at least for my purposes, or got sick of repetitive gear reviews on lenses that are all equally good anyway. Apart from that, I have become tired of fully exaggerated titles which have little to do with the actual content. To cut a long story short, I have stopped almost all my abos. At the moment I have four left and am considering scrapping three of them. This leaves my with one single abo. ALEX. He is the only creator who always has something new to show us.

I spent 33 years in the graphic arts world, a significant part of that doing composite work, both analog and digital, and these images don't look like single photographs to me. They all seem reasonably easy to execute as composites, the individual pieces being almost run of the mill to acquire. But if they are single execution photographs, then they are impressive. I would opt for the easier route as composites.

I am sometimes amazed how some photos are revered by pros and critics when I look at them and think hmmm. That’s obviously because I do not grasp the art of some of those images and if I took one similar I would probably delete it (if I took one that was critically acclaimed I would be very lucky!). I suppose this is why I watch videos like yours because they teach a heathen like me to look beyond the obvious, my school report would be must try harder, everyday is a school day!

His genius isn't technical at all. His is a creative genius who isn't afraid to try something different. He's pioneered more trends in photography than any other current photographer I know. It's not hard to see what he's doing technically but to create something that stands out in today's market is incredibly hard.

He is very interesting. Sometimes these shooters take a year or two to do these massive projects. I'm like who has time to do these projects. I was with Michael Grecco and it is a lot work to produce a book and we were doing a lot commercial products like annual reports.

I've not come across Kandar before. My significant loss. For me, a key response about most of these photos is that they are a frustrating glimpse of a continuing and untold story. - what is that chap doing at the water's edge, where from, where's he going to? And the celeb portraits have the same effect, they seem largely to be captured at odd, random moments, catching the folk unaware, clearly thinking about something, and I want to know what led to that moment, what are they thinking about... Sometimes it took a few seconds to recognise who the person was, they were caught without their "posing" face on.

I've gone online to find more information about Nadva Kander, and I have come away empty handed. He projects an air of mystery about himself, very similar to the enigmatic quality that some of his photographs portray. My question is a simple one: nowadays, does Nadva shoot film or does he use a digital camera?

This isn't a comment on Kander (nor anyone else specifically, for that matter) but the more I see of photography, the more I've come to realize I must be strange. 🙂 I vastly prefer photographs with NO people in them. In fact, being a wannabe landscape photographer I prefer landscapes with no man-made objects in them. Maybe that's a result of living in the US, where very little man-made "stuff" is old and / or visually doesn't fit into the environment. Maybe it's a result of living in an area (southern US) where from an appearance POV man's impact is overwhelmingly negative (purely visually, at least). But somehow it seems to weaken ... or at least somehow dilute ... the impact of a photo to have a figure it in. Dunno...
