This video is kind of creepy. The American gymnasts look so scared the whole time and they are all so quiet and robotic. Kerri Strug and Nadia's faces say it all on how crazy Bela was during his coaching career when he ordered Nadia to do something she hadn't done in 11 years (1981). Kerri looks horrified that 30 year old Nadia is being told by Bela to do a complex routine without any practice. This was such a dog and pony show to try to make Bela look cool and it is sad that the media and USOC used Nadia to try to portray Bela as some kind, non-abusive coach. All Bela had to do in this PR video was not act weird towards the end to Nadia and he couldn't even do that. Last year a Romanian book was published that cited literal taped recordings and spies/informants' testimonies from the communist days and it was confirmed that Bela beat and starved and psychologically tormented Nadia and her teammates in the 1970s. When Nadia gained a little bit of weight he called her a fat cow and pig. The girls were not allowed to even drink tap water and they had to sneakily drink toilet water. Bela had coaches watching them when they were showering to make sure they didn't raise their mouths upwards so they could drink the shower water. Nadia, who keeps changing her story over the decades, tried to commit suicide due to the abuse by drinking either bleach, detergent, or shampoo.

The ending isn't cool though. They did a good job smiling and hugging and laughing for the cameras but the ending was creepy. We get a hint of how he was with Nadia in the 1970s. Nadia didn't do that final routine since 1981 yet Bela ordered her to do it...and sadly Nadia snaps to attention and just does it. Kerri Strug's face says it all. She looks like she is thinking, "I can't believe he is ordering 30 year old Nadia to do something that only gymnasts in their primes should be doing". When you see the other girls' reactions while the camera pans forward the other girls look horrified also for Nadia. This could have really been a disastrous situation but luckily Nadia survived. And then Bela ordered Nadia to do it again? I am sure the producer/director of the TV program stepped in and said "No way. That''s enough."

Scary to think, when this interview took place, it was only 16 years after 1976. That is like interviewing someone today for something special they did in 2005.

It looks like Bela did a good cop, bad cop routine with Nadia when he was her coach and she would gaslight herself as an adult woman that "the ends justify the means" hence why publically she never admitted the abuse he did to her that she herself confirmed in an interview on tape in a bugged hotel room to reporters in Romania in the 1970s that were recently released and disclosed via a book from the Romanian Communist era secret police archives.

He's a monster like his wife Marta. They both would be nothing without Nadia. They used and exploited Nadia as a get out of Romania card. Without Nadia nobody in America would have wanted them coaching anybody let alone American Olympians. That video was so irresponsible and creepy when he ordered Nadia at the end to do something she hadn't done in 11 years and she didn't even practice or do warming up for. It was like Bela was giving us a small hint of how he was with Nadia in the 1970s...ordering her around and it was creepy how Nadia snapped to attention and just did it like 11 years hadn't passed since the defection. Bela is creepy. He acts like he is such a nice, kind man but he is really mean and a narcissist while Marta is mean 100% of the time so you know what you get with her. Btw, Marta and Bela bugged out to Romania in the past 4 years after the Texas ranch closed the same month as the Nassar conviction in January 2018. They stayed quiet on Nassar even though they knew what he was doing while Nassar stayed quiet and wouldn't tell anybody about the physical abuse Bela and Marta were doing to the girls.

@@Hedgehogsinthemist123 It does look like she loves him here but Stockholm Syndrome is a thing and the camera is running so Nadia knows she has to do a little acting here. In 2021 a Romanian book disclosed for the first time evidence in the form of old official communist Romania's secret police files in the forms of taped interviews with Nadia and testimony from witnesses/spies who were stationed near Nadia who called in to the police about the abuse Nadia and the other girls received but the police and government did nothing to help them. Nadia for the previous 30 years before 2021 denied that she was ever abused in Romania but the book confirms she talked to the author and helped him to make the book because she heard her own voice talking about being abused to reporters in a bugged hotel room in Romania. Bela and the other coaches slapped/punched Nadia, starved her for 3 days in a row frequently, and banned her from drinking water. He would call her a fat cow or pig all the time even when she was very skinny. She had to drink toilet water secretly and Bela would order coaches to watch the girls when they shower to make sure they keep their heads lowered to the ground so they can't drink any shower water. People talk about how bad the Karoylis were in Texas (they were terrible, of course) but they were 2 or 3 times worse in Romania.
