Interesting observation. I can personally see no similarity whatsoever between Nadine Shah and Amy Winehouse. Have a listen to Nadine's 'Holiday Destination' album, you may well enjoy it. And, as a fan of Patti Smith since 1978 who has seen her perform Pissing in a River many times over the years, I loved Nadine Shah's cover at this one-off London river themed show. I have also seen Patti forget the words to her own songs a good few times - and use a lyric sheet when performing Bertolt Brecht songs at a one-off Brecht tribute show in London in 2005. So Nadine had to look at the words (on the rather wordy Pissing), so Patti struggled a bit with A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall at the Nobel Prizegiving. So what? I love them both!

@@SeeGigFilmGigPost This song is as such an expression of angst and hopelessness. And yes, Patti, does forget the words to her own songs and usually the best ones. True. In this one I've heard her say, "and like a kid I'm pining for you now." These frivolous drunks in the beginning chattering did this woman no favors. Don't forget that Patti got her start in CBGB's where this was common place, but she could grab ahold of these drunks. That was her tremendous charisma. This woman doesn't take the song seriously, so why not sing disco or something they are expecting?
