The Cristal Baschet is an acoustic musical instrument that belongs to a category known as friction idiophones. The vibration of its individual elements produces musical tones by means of friction. These vibrating elements are metal rods embedded in a heavy plate. The pitch is determined by the rod's length, weight, and position at the equilibrium point. A vibration is caused when an attached glass rod is gently stroked with wet finger. The vibration of the rod with greater amplitude and weaker pressure is transmitted onto the metal fitting. This causes a transformation in the vibrations and the shape of the wave produced. The vibrations propagating through the metal have a high pressure and a weak amplitude. This amplification in pressure is the result of fiberglass cones that are fixed in a wood frame alongside a tall, cut-out metal part in the shape of a flame. "Whiskers," placed on the side of the instrument, amplify high-pitched sounds. The Cristal Baschet is also known as the Crystal Organ and the Crystal Baschet. The range of a concert Cristal is 5 octaves. The sound of the Cristal has nothing to do with the glass harmonica. The Cristal Baschet was created in 1952 by the French instrument makers and artists Bernard and Francois Baschet. The Baschet brothers specialized in creating sculptures that could be played to produce music. They invented the inflatable guitar, an aluminum piano, and then created an "educational instrumentarium" for the purpose of giving young people exposure to musical concepts. The Cristal Baschet was developed around the same time as musique concrète (Avant-Garde musical style introduced by Pierre Schaeffer and Pierre Henry), Electro-Acoustic music and early Moog synthesizers. The Cristal Baschet produces music similar in style to these other musical forms, but through purely acoustic means; no electrical amplification is involved.

I have the first vinyl album of Cristal Baschet music produced by the Baschet brothers. It was impressive but in some ways very disturbing music. The instrument as played here does not produce any of those disturbing sounds. :)

Nice Music. Congrats! It would be interesting to have a full review of the Baschet theory of applied acoustics and you'll understand why it is a conceptual mistake to label the Cristal Baschet as an Idiophonic instrument. They certainly never did, it is a mistake spread by some people, specially some museums, that never came to understand the Baschet system. If you are interested, you can download my Ph.D. on www.tesi.tallerbaschet.cat. It will be a pleasure to help people betyer understand and know the Baschet work and the physics of sound. Yours, Martí, coordinator of the Baschet Sound Sculpture Workshop at the Barcelona University.

How could you ever put thumbs down to this song or any other from Nadishana or anyone he plays with? I have never subscribed to anyone else in all my years of being on KZbin. Nadishana you are truly a unique individual and they way you express that through your musical abilities is truly amazing. I have never seen a crystal organ before, that it so awesome. I have been watching you for years and I thought I would drop a comment here. Thank you!

My Philosophy in brief. Instrumental music opens the heart, spirit and soul. As it is performed, it will continue to keep these three open, and in regards to Art, enable the viewer to visualize deeper, in regards to Music, enable the listener to hear what cannot be spoken, in regards to Life, enable the feeler to touch what is not physical, and in regards to the Mind, enable the thinker to reconsider what is. THIS is that music! Thank you!
This song is a masterpiece! I've watched SO many times!

Yup! this is so brilliant, crystal organ is the best background for handpan, and Loup is nice and calm and kind.. And the most genius two handpan players together.. I really want to hug who made this connection.. Nadishana your technique is impressive but i feel high pressure in your blood when u play. It's good for us but bad for you :) Manu your technique is also strong but your mood is even better, u touch just for the music but sometimes silence again for the music. This i like most. :) Thank u guys. You both are my inspiration. Love u all!
