Genuinely seem to have forgotten what they were supposed to be doing with the set. Part of what makes commander fun is that you can find jank effects that don’t really work in EDH but run them anyways

@@greatoni3239 wotc has shown that naming conventions aren't used to denote format exclusivity. They could name it "FOR MODERN ONLY" and it'd still be legal in commander. The problem lies with eternal formats becoming an exponentially restricted and difficult design space because everything printed that isn't banned or designated as unofficial (un-sets, though later some exceptions were made) is legal for play

All they needed to take out was the "or ability" part of its triggers. Only triggers on spells and it would've been fine.
@rockerknight252 ай бұрын
There's plenty of things they could do to make it less horrible. Like its effect only applies to other creatures, or its effect only happens once per turn per creature, or it only affects nontokens, the list goes on.

How many times people gonna buy into “it was design mistake” like gee seems like a lot of things from simic are oko, uro, nadu. someone’s got the marketing formula down to a T.
@nopickles4202 ай бұрын
Yeah, I keep seeing companies nowadays release things into their game, it immediately makes a big splash with the obviously crazy effect, so people cash out for it, then they say "oopsie" and ban/debuff/"balance" it to hell. Then, they take the money and run. To me, it's more of a grey area to easily falsify your intended product design, and it makes me wonder how many "small mistakes" will lead to so much money going to their pockets. I barely had a chance to open packs with all the hype they try to give these cards already, so I wonder how much of an impact these crazy cards might've had on that, as a casual player/enjoyer of magic cards in general. 😂
Why are they printing cards they didn't even bother to playtest?

Every set was and is by definition a commander set. What we shouldn't have is every card being designed for commander, takes part of the fun out of commander and a lot of the fun out of other formats.
@johnoden59322 ай бұрын
For me the biggest problem is just how long it took them to ban a obviously problematic card. I can understand they didnt want to have the ban be a overreaction but come on even people who play and love Nadu admit hes a problem how was this not done sooner.

Wow its like maybe wizards should stop pushing so many sets out a year that they don't have time to test cards.
@gagegriffin86312 ай бұрын
Sounds like they need to stop making cards for Commander for sets that aren't for Commander specifically. If they focused on Modern for this MODERN set then there would have been a cool simic add to Bant or even a Vanafar Pod deck or who knows. Design needs to ignore Commander like they used to

Nadu is definitely way more toxic than Dockside: at least you have to tutor for that one and, if countered or stopped by a stax piece (which is pretty easy), you are good to go. Otherwise, the game usually just ends on the spot and you can shuffle up. Nadu cannot be easily countered by stax pieces and it is in your command zone, paying for its own tax if interacted with and attempting to play solitaire every single turn. I'd say Nadu is way more deserving of a ban. Moreover, casual players are basically building the cEDH version of the deck since common stuff like Lightning Greaves break it immediately. So we are back to Paradox Engine turns, but for two less mana and in the command zone. This s*it needs to go, no one will miss it other than terrible players who are enjoying stomping casual tables with a design mistake that grants them easy wins

i dont see how anyone thought the original version was problematic for commander? who are these play testers... anyone that has been playing commander for the past 4 years knows that the power creep is insane and to be honest prophet of kruphix could easily be unbanned now without a problem.
@k9commander2 ай бұрын
Casting things at flash speed is not an issue. That wasn't why Prophet of Kruphix was banned. She was banned because she ALSO untapped all your stuff. Seedborn Muse is powerful, but fine. Leyline of Anticipation is fine. Both effects in one card is not. That's why it was banned and needs to stay banned.
@bwet20562 ай бұрын
Seedborn is terrible. I might rather see toxrill hit the field. Every turn ala ‘every instanceX’ type effects in general just ruin the pacing and balance of the game

@@k9commander there are so many power levels of commander play at this point there really shouldn't be any bans besides the power nine and the other obvious things like shahrazad, chaos orb. Is the rules committee still worried people will show up to a casual game of commander with an emrakul or erayo deck if they remove the ban list? The format is old enough and rule zero is a lot more understood by the players base. I mean we have literal salt level ratings on edhrec now. Pretty much the entire ban list can be nuked. Even the Flash ban was a mistake because if the card was reintroduced now it would see only fringe play in cedh. Wouldn't it make sense to have paradox engine back now that everyone is playing dockside? I mean dockside is way worse than primeval titan.

Why would I play against a broken card (and now banned) which makes the opponent play solitaire for half an hour each turn?
@zombiemanjosh2 ай бұрын
I think it would be better for the comittee to inverse their stance. Tables can R0 in a card they don't have a problem with just as easy if not more easily than they can R0 out a card that someone at their table is probably already playing and spent money on, and them actually applying bans will influence the formats for the better by providing a baseline of whats considered absurd in those formats.

I wonder what came first in design Nadu or Valient? If it was Nadu than I guess Valient is "fixed" Nadu, Once per turn and weaker effects. If it was Valient than the designer should've known about these issues because there would've been another playgroup testing it out. I just think Nadu and Valient are too similar in design for there not to be a crossover of ideas at somepoint.
