These are the American students... warm, respectful, funny, sincere. Unlike what you see on Hollywood movies where they velify public schools and so their students and rpteachers in the US. Ang Galing po ninyo...you won their hearts and minds. Good luck.

Not true! It's difficult to be a high school Math teacher in America. There is a high over turn rate. The quality of American students is low. What is know is the public secondary educational system in the USA is of low quality. Students who graduate from high school are about 3 years behind, generally. Some students can't add, subtract, multiply, and divide, yet they still graduate from high school. Their low math abilities is caused by their lack of reading skills, and not understanding the math vocabulary. Their math ability is about D average. Then the disrespect the high school (and middle school) students have. Some STEM teachers are beaten-up, hit, tacks put in their drinks, and cursed at. When a teacher in the USA touches a student, they are fired (not fair). When a high school teacher is hit or beaten up, all that happens is the bad student is transferred to another district high school. The bad student is not put in jail. In the smaller cities or town, it is easier to teach math or physics (the 2 hardest subjects in high school). It seems Barstow had an excellent Math teacher who was able to relate to their high school students. But I am not sure. He earned his Ph.D. in Mathematics in the Philippines. Why teach in high school? What not a college or university? Why not work in the American tech industry? He could have worked in the tech industry, then teach in the evening at a public college, or a vocational college. Instead of living on a public high school salary, he would be making more working in the tech industry, and teaching in the evenings.

@@HarrisonLapahie always someone who will piss on everyone. You’re so full of advice on what he should do when you don’t even know him. Mind your own business and take your negativity and shove it. With American students you earn their respect. It is not automatically given. Don’t think that your station alone entitles you to respect. That high school he taught at was not in a rich neighborhood but he was able to earn their respect. If you are having trouble being respected maybe a look in the mirror would help.

They didn't use to be nice during his first two years as a teacher. They were exactly how the students acted in the movies you've watched. He said that they used to mock him because of his accent and throw water bottles when at him when his back was turned.

@@numberbender I'm saying for today, it is impossible. It is possible to land people on the Moon today, it has happened, but they won't survive there. It is possible to land people on Mars today, but they wouldn't survive there. That's what I meant by saying it is impossible, because the astronauts cannot live there, because they will die. A decade or two from now, or maybe hundreds of years from now, it may be possible for people to live on Mars, if people so choose to follow that path. Mechatronic devices have landed on the Moon, on Mars, have gone to Jupiter, and have gone to the far reaches of our solar system. You mentioned the rover. I created diagnostic test codes in C++ for the rovers FIDO (Field Integrated Design and Operations) and Athena at JPL in Pasadena, California. But the priority today should not be that. It should be the helping and solving of people's problems of surviving on earth today, which doesn't seem to be going well at the moment. And each year, problems seem to get worst, not better. Landing people on Mars can wait.

@@numberbender I'm fairly certain that you've heard and even used Khan Academy. The originator of this academy doesn't even have a background in Pedagogy. Gates Foundation infused money on it and the rest is history. I think you can group together with other Math and Science teachers and form a similar group. May I reiterate that you truly applied Flip Education quite well.

Sir, part po kayo ng college life ko, how you saved me from difficult exams, gang sa ngayon nagtuturo na.. Naiyak ako nung sinabi mo 14 years sa Barstow, cant imagine yung struggles and i know marami ding happy memories. Stay safe po. God bless you more.
