Product review of the Nagual electronic composter and my opinions about this type of product.
Buy Nagual at large discount: www.indiegogo.com/projects/na...
The manufacturer of Nagual contacted me and said the following:
"First of all, the electronic composter's end product is highly concentrated nutrients and may burn the plant if not handle properly.
1. the plants that you use in the video are way too little while the compost are way too much in ratio.
2. the compost should stay away from plants' roots
3. compost should only touches soils, not plants. "
1) no compost is high in nutrients - even well made compost has an NPK of less then 1-1-1. The nutrients in the dried kitchen scraps produced here have almost no plant available nutrients. The company does not understand what plant "nutrients" are.
2) What good is compost if you can't put it near plants? The problem here is that the material produced is not compost - which is the conclusion in the video.

Oh mister, i am so happy that i have found this video of yours. I was honestly on the verge of ordering, wanted more info but the website didnt really gave me the answers. The appeal for me was that i could actually for once use it, even tho i live in a city in a tiny apartment. Having free compost for my plants would have been amazing. But knowing its just rather expensive electric dryer.. well, you did saved me lots of money and disappointment for sure. Back to planning my vermicomposting it is. :) Thank you and bless you :)

I put all my kitchen scraps under mulch and it composts just fine. Cost zero dollars and uses zero energy....I'm not sure how to improve on that ;>)

If it was free, I'd consider it. But with the expense, I'll keep throwing it on my compost pile. Thanks for the information!

Well, here in Germany I do vermicomposting with horse Manure from several horses. Worms Eisenia fetida living and migrating inside my large Piles (keeping warmer areas even at minus 20 degrees celsius outside) survive. Great results with that compost and nutrient loving plants. As a biologist I did and published scientific research with larger Worm populations of 12.500 individualis initiating my Piles. Compost with worms was months ahead and had better quality in comparison to wormless Piles. That composter is expensive and tiny.

Thanks for a thorough and fair review. Much appreciated. I was ready to buy this as a composter but as you clearly indicate, it is a dehydrator. I look forward to your next video to know the results of how your putting this in your plant containers.

The amount of energy used to produce such a small amount of compost, makes this device not very effcient. Not to mention you have to keep buying their proprietary filters. But like he said, this is not composting anything. Very honest review, thank you!

Cool kitchen gadget. Alternatively, could make “garden smoothies” with food scraps & add to garden soil to decompose

Just another appliance for the kitchen and not as useful. I'll just throw the little I have outside on the site of my next garden bed. By the way, that's a lovely kitchen.

Very insightful review. Thanks. I guess they are trying to scam us city dwellers who don't have the room for composting, and can only do indoor gardening.

I'm glad I found this video. You present information so well. I was curious about using this as a way to store kitchen scraps until I had enough to do a batch. I don't like adding to my tumbler. I like setting it up once every other month or so. I was wondering if the stuff this produced would still be considered a nitrogen, or green material.

I would call this an expensive, time consuming solution that needs a problem. Using electricity to basically dry kitchen scraps is not green. My scraps go into a black composter outside (year round) and it turns into black useful compost. No electricity needed.

4hrs for a full load at 26cents an hr is far more than ' the price of a cup of coffee' per mth

In countries with good consumers protection laws, this product could not be marketed as a composter. It's an electric food waste grinder and dehydrator. Comparable to marketing an appliance as a common coffeemaker that just grinds coffee beans.

I think in some countries such as S. Korea city dwellers have to pay per lb. to toss kitchen waste. This product was probably developed for that kind of market. The producers are looking to expand this market. Since we have zero incentives to reduce waste, ie. being charged per lb.; the price of the unit doesn't justify the purchase.

I don't know about south Korean cities but my aunt in Switzerland has to buy some kind of stamp to put on her garbage. I live in France and we pay an annual tax for garbage removal that is calculated on the squarefootage of your home. But in Switzerland the system is different and because your paying each garbage bag, every citizens is usually more involved in reducing their waste (its actually very expensive for each bag!!) But this also forces the industrial companies to rethink they're packing which is a huge improvement (according to me) !!!

A good quality blender could mince it up finely, would make it rot faster. Some tea bags are synthetic material, why they can sit in a pot or mug for a long time.

Won't the scraps rehydrate once you water your plants?!

Yes - that is why they start to stink - you have wet kitchen scraps in the soil.

Sounds like electric bokashi, if so it would still need a second step to break it down further to make it plant friendly.

what a load of crap. Excellent video. Thanks for posting. Its big, compared to what it produces, makers bullshit about time it takes and size at end. Was looking at getting one but this is a total waste of money.

It is just grinding and dehydrating material, calling it composting is totally wrong. You can't use it for indoor plants, as its not stable so after reacting with water and soil it will start decomposing and creating bad smell.
