Flamchasers are the 13 MANTIS Soldiers that Elysia herself named as such and they were meant to both try and take the fight to the Herrscher of The End but in the event they could not stop her to help Humanity rebuild later. They weren't necessarily the strongest - though most of them are - but they were the ones Elysia believed were best suited for the job. The Flamechasers weren't even an official organization or group in their time - they were Elysia's unofficial super squad. Two glaring example of not the strongest are Griseo and Pardo. Pardo was made a MANTIS due to a misunderstanding while Griseo underwent the operation in an attempt to save her life. Neither is particularly powerful. The numbering they have was chose by Elysia as well and while for the most part it's based on power, that's not true for all of them. Mobius for example is really quite powerful but Elly named her 10th to keep her political clout in check. She deliberately put the three youngest at the final three spots to divert attention from them otherwise Hua would be ranked somewhere in the middle - she's plenty powerful but back in PE she had low confidence and iffy control of her powers. Kevin and Elysias are aberrations frankly, especially Kevin. Ellysia at least is a Herrscher so her being one of the strongest makes sense. Kevin was a high-school basketball start that had to give up the sport because of an injury. He only joined the fight against the Honkai because MEI joined MOTH (The anti honkai organization of PE) and he followed her.

Durandal's warhorse certainly isn't a random whim of cool. It's tied to her past, and is a direct transition from Dea Anchora, following the constellation motif. Anymore than this will be spoiler territory so I'll leave it at this.

I wasn't gonna comment but it's a little bit frustrating that she always insist on the elysian realm. "how did they create it when they already died" the answer is they built it when they were alive and the realm existed ever since until it was destroyed in the present.

5:20:33 'flame chasers...' they are the 13 MANTISes who survived the battle with the Herrscher of Binding (aka the tragedy of binding). All the rest died. Pardo survived because she had a stomach bug.

False, some of the flame chasers didn't die, some like Su is stuck in some part of the Sea of Quanta, not to mention the fact that Griseo literally had a grown up version of her as a battlesuit. You also forgot that Fu Hua is included in the flame chasers and is still alive, not to mention her latest battlesuit Fenghuang of Vissicitude exists, so yeah.

@Grionlam there were more MANTIS soldiers, it is just so that they were called the 13 flamechasers is because they are the only MANTIS soldiers that survived as they fought the 11th Herrscher (aka Herrscher of Binding), 90% of all the MANTIS soldiers died at the hands of the Binding Herrscher and that's where the 13 Flamechasers were known.
