This is a tool-assisted speedrun made by zvsp. He did a testrun of a "100%" run in the past and has finally finished it. He has given me permissions to upload it here.

Listen man. I 100% completed this game as a pre-teen, without a guide if I recall. Yes it was frustrating, yes I felt like giving up sometimes. But fuck you, I did it. You can do it too. Also fuck Rainbow Palace so hard.

I did, plenty of people did. It really isn't that hard. An internet faq or magazine could walk you through the game in about 10 hours or less. It's hardly a "no-life" game to finish unlike some real bastard games now, like any blizzard game.

The credits showed some sequences of Bomberman building bomb staircases to places you thought were inaccessible, such as the warp in Green Gardens 1, encouraging you to actually go hunt for secret areas and 100% gold cards and custom pieces, which is by far the must frustrating and difficult part of the game. So by your description, the credits are a self-fulfilling prophecy. Either that or they were just trying to add replay value.

He suicides so he can get all his lives back so he can death warp in the later part of the level. Backtracking to get back to the entrance of the rooms in the same stage would take forever, but since this is a speed run, death abuse is used to minimize the time spent in the level overall.
