You can also press the tape lightly to your skin to remove some of the tackiness before placing it on your nail! it will still adhere, just not stick so badly to the polish

Would painter's tape be better than scotch tape? That way there's NO worry about the residue or the adhesive messing up the polish underneath?

I like all these tricks but how do you do your opposite hand? My left hand always looks great; it's doing the right hand with my left that gets messed up. Might try the band-aid one though for the French.

vs the french tip stick ons that are so cheap and create such cleaner lines. . . . . . .please don't use bandaids for this purpose as not only were the bandaids wasted, but the result was not really a nice clean line either.
