One man's trash is another man's treasure. As a child of the sixty's, before trash dumps in our area, people used to dump their junk by the river. Iron, cans, wire, bicycle frames, old appliances, etc. We were a low income farm family. Every penny my parents saved went towards paying for our farm. My parents would bring home things to reuse. My first bicycle was made by my brothers recycling. I was delighted. My parents grew up in the depression. Everything had value. Your creation is very beautiful and creative. Keep doing what you do. ❤

@@LM-qs6eq my parents did, too. Mama had 5 kids then. She worked like a madwoman, though, to provide for them. She was a midwife, delivering all the babies in her small section of her mountain. She did laundry for people, and she was a famous moonshiner. Folks would cross the mountain from miles away, because hers was the best. She only used the best materials to make her still, and nobody ever got lead poisoning or ptomaine from her drink. People criticised her about that, but her belief was that she was providing a service for folks who were going to drink it, whether she provided it or not. At least this way, she could sell it to people she knew were not using their grocery money and letting the kids go hungry. And they wouldn’t get sick from it, either. She didn’t get paid for delivering the babies, because no one really had much money there. But she would wake up in the morning, and there would a basket of peaches, or apples, or a pie sometimes. Whenever someone had a garden, she always got some fresh vegetables and such. She delivered close to 100 babies. And the families remembered her 40years later, and would come say hi when she visited there.

I remember the 60s very well, and we had swap meets, and ‘junk exchanges’ where nobody had to have money (hippies rarely had any!) and we could make great stuff out of pretty much anything. We could macrame and tie-dye, and we spent a good amount of time in the park. Sometimes we taught people, and sometimes we learned from others. We accepted most people and they joined in with us. People would give us cash for whatever we were making and we bought lunch! What a great way to live. We were never afraid, didn’t need much, did fun stuff and life was so simple. I miss those days!

It is well suited for children in kindergarten, not so much for adults

@@---115 But it would be great for adults as remedial fine motor skills! Stroke, car accident, Parkinson’s, and other patients often do this kind of art as occupational therapy as they regain their dexterity. In fact, it’s great for that, because holding the brush, and aiming for a particular spot on the branch is a great hand-eye coordination exercise! I taught Special Ed for many years and it was always helpful to have activities like this handy for kids who had fine motor needs. I would say, though, to make sure you have good ventilation when using nail polish. The fumes can be hard on breathing, sinuses and such. A nice activity!
