Chris, love the channel, could you please go into a little more detail on the timeline settings. I’ve been trying to find your settings with no luck.

I used to take lessons with you almost a decade ago at a small musical store in the millennia plaza. I wasn't the best student ever but man did I love hearing you play, now I watch this video with nostalgia thinking about those times and looking at that guitar and still thinking about how cool it is lol. Glad to see you're still doing well and doing what you love.

Wow! David, thanks so much for the kind words. I hope you're doing well in life. You should play that guitar sometimes man haha! Music is the best. It doesn't matter if you play up to anyone else's standards. It just matters that you do it to express what's inside you (who you are) through the instrument, and derive joy and satisfaction from it. I've moved on from where I was teaching; it was a good run, but I decided I'd like to work directly for my clients. So far it's been great being a music entrepreneur. KZbin is a great way to share music and some knowledge though.

Nice tip! Never thought to change picks.

I can't really take credit for it. I heard The Edge discuss this once, but I hadn't tried it. It's shocking how much of his sound is in that pick. Thanks so much.

My lord the tone!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻

Haha! I was pretty excited when I hit the magic recipe. This is the closest I've ever gotten to replicating the tone. Thanks man!

Thanks so much Alan! I truly appreciate the kind words and support. There are hopefully a bunch of useful stuff in the different playlists. I mainly started the channel to upload original music content, but I've been posting regular lesson/production/tutorial content over the last few years.

awesome! very useful video, and astoundingly close tone, for the "wrong" amp, and the "wrong" guitar. the pick, yeah, the delay combination, very useful to know - i've just read an in depth analysis that confirms the delay combo, but an essential part most tone recreators usually miss is driving the amp with a booster pedal, or a compressor - dallas schoo talked about that very thing - a compressor that boosts about 10db into the amp, or a treble booster - that's a huge part of the sound, that gives you that zingy chimey grit on the attack, on an otherwise clean tone. goes for the early stuff, as well, i was always amazed at how much of a full on hard rock tone it was on the attack - for october or war, for instance - but instantly cleaned up on the sustain, to allow for arpeggios, and open picking, at the same time. that was part of the magic, and i could never recreate that. i believe the secret is in the booster, and i'm glad you confirm it, too.

Thanks so much! I honestly had no idea about the compressor part, but it was a hunch that at least the 2290 was providing some push, compression, and tone shaping, due to it's analog preamp. Very cool stuff.

I think my favorite thing about this video is that the only required purchase is a pick. I love getting more out of the gear I already own.
@ChrisPetersGuitar3 жыл бұрын
Well... I think it was fairly clear that you must also purchase several Chellee Guitar products. Even The Edge knows this haha! Just kidding. Thanks man.

Wow. You did not explain the actual setup of the Strymon Timeline?

Thanks for checking it out. 90% of the sound is the pick and the player; it really requires either a Herdim or Herco pick used in the way I describe. Please check out my response to the pinned comment for detailed settings. You'll probably have to tweak a bit (season to taste) based on your rig, but it should get you in the ballpark. Let me know if it helps. Best of luck.

Your analysis of how to make the sounds is very impressive! Did you always have a gift for doing that or is it learned?

Also, have you considered being Kylo Ren for Halloween this year?!? Haha

Thanks! Well, I think I have a knack for hearing small details. This is helpful to adjust your playing technique, and for tweaking tones in order to get close to a sound you're chasing. I think developing your ear as a player, will eventually lead to your ability to understand how to arrive at a tone.

I would be very interested by your internal settings as well. What do you use for the time 2 parameter by example? Rpts 2, mix 2,...

The pick and cab make the biggest difference next to the guitar and amp. If people would follow the ear instead of the eyes, money would be spared tremendously
@ChrisPetersGuitar3 жыл бұрын
I agree 100%. About 75% is in the hands (and the pick by extension), and the way they attack the instrument, and subtly shape its sound.
