Beautiful coverage of our beloved Pitori, thank you.❤ That sculpture of a human mule at Con. hill partly answers the question you asked about Batswana in Botswana and South Africa in that it reminded me of Chief Kgamanyane of Bakgatla-Ba-Kgafela(A Batswana group) refusing to offer his people to e human mules and ferry quarry to build a dam for Paul Kruger(voortrekker) in the 1860s, he then uprooted his people and settled in Mochudi, Botswana. Batswana are a umbrella name for many clans in South Africa and Botswana, areas closer to Botswana have the same clans as in Botswana and many are actual relatives. The clans speak different dialects and may not always understand each other, so it is not that we are not one people but that we are different clans of one family, with South Africa having more clans than Botswana. The airport was first called Jan Smuts Airport, then Johannesburg, then ORTIA. Lastly, thank you for being intentional about covering history and architecture, even when you get some things wrong, it comes from a good place. PS. I laughed when I saw an East African about to taste Starbucks coffee, and knew it would just fail the test.

@lebo52818 ай бұрын
@lionheart24991 I sometimes wish that we could rent out these "muzungus" that you like giving undue credit to, just for two weeks so you can experience them "at work" and give us feedback. One old British man said his most proudest project was Uganda but Idi Amin ejected them back to Britain and left their work not maintained. As he proudly said the British used to pride themselves in being the best builders of countries so, whatever they built here, they also built elsewhere, how you destroyed them, only you would know.
@lionheart249918 ай бұрын
@lebo5281 You're right ✅️ but you're British friend possibly lied to you.Amin expelled the Asians not the British. The first Europeans arrived in uganda in the 1870s and were mostly missionaries and most left in 1962 when the country attained its independence whereas the white man has lived in S.A since the 1600s.That time frame alone should paint for you a picture of what could have been accomplished in the 2 countries. And BTW I'm not trying to discredit what our African brothers have achieved in our beloved mzansi.
@lebo52818 ай бұрын
@lionheart24991 You actually sound like the very old white Brit when you speak of South Africa, he is not my friend, he was just too happy to share how they brought their Indian labourers to work on their grand East African plan, and I was arguing for the non-discounting of the East Africans they found there and colonised. It's a pity your rebuttal on South Africa sound as racist as his. Shame. In this very video, there is a sculpture of a couple riding an animal drawn vehicle, which in this case was being drawn by a black man. Inspect that and ask yourself what else did they draw and build? When Robben islanders tell you they spent days on end on the quarry in the sun collecting quarry rocks to build the island, and Madiba damaged his eyesight, what do you think your muzungu was doing? When we cannot point to our pure Khoi and San ancestors in South Africa, what do you think caused their "extinction". Why do you think there was a need to bring slaves to the Cape and enslave defenceless natives? Why the need to bring Indians? "too many bosses, too little Indians" ~As the saying goes...reflect on it. Lastly, do me a favour and let me know what happened between that April 1652 and 2023, according to you, I want to see something. There are before and after pictures in archives for you to compare this amazing "jump-start".

Very nice video despite the weather. When in doubt about anything you are seeing just take out your phone and do a quick google search. The Union building is not the parliament. SA has 3 capitals and the parliament is in one of those capitals, Cape Town. When you go there you will see a burn down building near Company Garden, that is or was parliament. The security of the building allowed one man to enter and burn down such a beautiful building. The sad thing is that nobody went to jail for it. That is the new SA.

Great episode. It's unfortunate the guys missed the Springboks. The atmosphere was electric. If there's one thing SAns know how to do is celebrate and have a good time. I don't watch rugby but had no choice but to watch the World Cup because my rugby loving friends where not having it. No regrets. Haven't been to Pretoria in over 10 years and it's sad to see how littered the CBD is. Joburg and Pretoria are older cities that had their infrastructure boom in the 60's and 70's hence the older highrises. Businesses are decentralizing and the CBD is no more the Hub of Tertiary Business Activities..New Developments are mainly in the major Suburban nodes. I really enjoy visiting Joburg. It's a very vibrant city with lots to do. I visit at least once a year and always discover something new.. Enjoying these episodes. Can't wait for Lesotho...

The cities are massive. I love Pretoria more. It's laid back in a nice way. I always love building with red brick, always Classy

Union building was built in 1910-1913 if you had a chance you should hv went to the city centre (church square) the buildings look the same as the union building, union building and university of South Africa we designed by the same architec .

Union buildings is the seat of the executive/government/presidency hence Pretoria being the capital of SA. The three arms of government are dispersed to several cities in SA with parliament hosted at Cape Town and consitutional court in Johannesburg. I'd advise to do a bit of research on areas your are traveling to and that will go a long way. All information is in your fingertips. That aside, I very much enjoyed the video minus the weather in it.

Here in Cape Town it's very hot this season, it rains during the winter season. Winter season is longer than summer season in Cape Town.

Hi Liv. The red bus passed near the Mandela home but the driver forgot to tell you about the Vilakazi neighbourhood which in whole world has two Nobel peace prize winners living along the same road

There are more Batswanas in South Africa than Botswana. The road you took from Botswana border all the way to Pretoria is dominated by Setswana speakers. There are more Basothos in South Africa than Lesotho. More Swatis in South Africa than Eswatini. We also have AmaZulu, AmaXhosa, Vatsonga, Bapedi, VhaVenda and Ndebeles. South Africa is many nations in one country.

That's for sure. Nowonder it is known as Rainbow Nations. I believe that all those communities have similar ancestry
