Such as preventing them from going to the girls bathroom. Considering even the polls and extras refuse to give an exact gender, they're most likely some type of "gender neutral.

On some days, I can gather my nerves and go outside, but I never speak to anyone while shopping, beyond the obligatory "hello" and "goodbye" to the cashier. Doctor's appointments, dentists, etc. leave me mentally and physically drained for the rest of the day. It is very difficult to actually function with severe social anxiety, and I'm not sure it would even be possible in a country without a solid welfare system and mental health assistance. Part of why I like this show, is because of how relatable Komi is to me; and I think it's great how it raises awareness about what Social Anxiety even is.

More importantly, if ignored or underestimated it can grow into something far more serious. In my teens I would have described myself like you; low self-esteem, shy, anxious about how my behavior or words were received by others. But nothing "serious". Just being introverted. Then, in my twenties it gradually grew, combined with a long-term depression, to the point where I now in my early thirties get outright panic attacks when stepping outside my own door.

I would argue because Japanese culture is different, Najimi is a more of a anime character archetype. I've seen a few anime character with the same archetype. I personally enjoy these characters a lot as they feel free of the pandering diversity box checking, feel like their own characters and treat the concept with a light hearted, good natured sense of levity and humor. Other examples I like include: Hideyoshi from Baka and test Crona from Soul Eater

I know it's a bit late, but I recommend watching this on Netflix. The thing about them not translating everything that was on the chalkboard in Episode 1? They weren't supposed to. That much text on the screen would have ruined the moment. And the point wasn't to know everything they said to each other, but just to know that they'd been "talking" for a long time. Also, Netflix's subtitles have at least one clear advantage over "fan titles": they always get Najimi's pronouns right. Fan subs always seem to use "he" or "she", but both of those are wrong. Netflix may not get everything right, but they at least use "they" when referring to Najimi. Plus, they don't do things like having Najimi say "What can your childhood friend Mrs. Childhood Friend do for you?" Najimi's name literally means "childhood friend", but that fan sub for some reason decided to translate it both times, while Netflix leaves the name in the second time. Fan subs always have weird stuff like that.
