First mistake is to join the yacht week if you are looking for piece and quiet. Also, there's hundreds if not thousands of Anchorages where you can be alone or with just a few boats in the bay. You just happen to went to the busiest places on the coast. If you need some recommendation just let me know and i will be happy to share some fantastic locations with you. I work as a yacht captain on the Croatian cost for the last 12 years. Cheers!

sailed in Croatia for many years. Bora was a daily afternoon wind during summer.You could more or less time it 3.30-6PM something to consider as it stirs up the sea. And sometimes we had Scirocco, a hot 40 degrees desert wind, burning everything, but that was exceptional. IN general Croatia used to be nice to sail and do water skiing

That's not Bura, we call the summer daily afternoon wind Maestral, it's a pleasant and refreshing wind, much lighter than Bura

- July/August in the Med: it is super crowed everywhere - 8+ Billion people on our planet they all “wanna live the dream” - more and more wealthy people with big boats - holidays in Europe families with Charter boats fleeing from Northern parts of Europe. - choosing to be at a Festival place Just a few thoughts to consider… I am half Croatian and I am still missing the silent days during my youth in the 70’s then it was paradise to me. Those days are gone… This planet suffers from too many people and I am a part of them. But this is how life goes. Croatian is a country which is living from tourism and a quite short season. With these points taken you really can’t expect to be on your own in one of the most frequented vacation places. Try October perhaps? Really no pun intended just a few thoughts from an old man.

@@SailingJoy I love Brazil too. I was quite a bit in Saō Paulo. (If you go in August, for example, to La Maddalena you don’t need a boat- you can jump across the many boats with dry feet) 😂 Try off season it’s not so warm but way more relaxed. Safe travels and have a great day!

Nice video. Perhaps try using some Croatian local background music from Dalmatia next time when showing Croatian coast. It will give it a much better and pristine feeling. A hint for a good start exploring it search for the Oliver Dragojevič songs.

2:24 minutes in and I must comment already, yeah the loud music in Croatia is out of control everybody thinks thinks they can do whatever they want without any regard to other people. All the party clubs are ruining the true beauty of Croatia. At my local spot in the Adriatic, Gajac there is incredibly loud noise from Zrce and an absolutely stupidly loud Party Boat that I wish would sink. The party boat can be heard over the crashing waves at the beach 10km away! Realistically it is affecting a much larger area because it moves from island to island. Zrce on the other hand is known to occasionally be heard over 20km away. If no one complains about it when they are disturbed it will only get worse and trust me I know very well how bad it can get. I encourage people to complain to the authorities about the noise. If you are disturbed by unreasonable groups of party people you can contact the Police, you have the right to enjoy your property or rented apartment in piece and should not be forcefully listening to other peoples garbage. Sorry for the harsh comment but the truth should be said.

How about neither. It is a BURA or BORA ! The bora is a northerly to north-easterly katabatic wind in areas near the Adriatic Sea. Similar nomenclature is used for north-eastern winds in other littoral areas of eastern Mediterranean and Black Sea basins.

@lovropirkl2672

I'm a local in Croatia and I know quite a bit of history. The water tunnels were indeed used to hide submarines in the former state of Yugoslavia. The former state was right on the border between the capitalist and the communist blocks during the cold war and thus had quite a big fleet of submarines. The island Vis and sections of Lastovo were completely militarised for decades, and the Yugoslavian government in Belgrade used the water bunkers on those islands to hide navy ships and subs. Today however anyone can freely dock their private boat in those tunnels and that includes the occasional private speedboat

@@SailingJoy the wind in this video did not look like 100 knots at all. Now the other video had a stronger bura. But even that is not that crazy. Bura can reach speeds of well above 150 knots. Buras danger is not only the windspeed but the whirlwind or fast change of wind directions. When there is really strong bura you cant even look over the water because of all the spray/foam. I have ridden my standup jetski in 80 knots of bura. But I was not alone and I really know the limits. My point is dont ever mess around with the real bura no one will come and save you. I wish you good sailing you two! Stay safe.

The Croatian coast has become incredibly expensive, my boat is therefore in Italy. Costs less that a third for the berth. Food is lightyears better, wine not to mention, and the arrogance of croats is sometime unbearable. Not all of course, but I have seen things you can't imagine and I speak the language fluently. The best to sail Croatia is to start from north and sail down the coast, just wait for the Maestral wind, comes around 1 pm from northwest and takes you down the coast, in one afternoon we made 45 sea miles with just the front sail, easy to handle as it builds up waves. Generally speaking, in the northern Adriatic the reaction time for Bura winds, a north easterly wind falling down from the dinaric alps, is three minutes, central Croatia half an hour and in the south you got three hours to safe your sails. Enjoy !

Lets just make a statement that this comment comes from a Serb, they hate Croatia and Croats (hats down to normal ones that we welcome), which you all had chance to see trought this comment. And this is mild one, trust me. Although, its true that we are arrogant, but only for people like Dušan. Dušan, please, do a favour to yourself and us, make a sharp turn away or around Croatia.
