Paris in the rain is amazing. Since visiting it in the rain,no matter where I am in the world and hear cars splashing down wet streets I think of Paris. It has been this way since 1987 for me. This coming from someone who grew up in Seattle and Portland. There is now a Laudree in Georgetown on M street.

Congrats, Nalph! I think this is the best doc you ever made. Sound & picture quality of highest standard, and a few mishaps and oddities included to make your account of the first trip to Paris as touching and heart warming as some of your trips to German towns. You both made the be of a rainy day in Paris. As a young person I also wondered what the big fuss was about Mony Lisa. Thanks to Arte TV I recently learned that it is one of the first art objects becoming part of the Louvre collection.

The statue of the goddess Nike is one of my favourite pieces of art and I was so thrilled when I got see it in person. It must have been beautiful in its original state but now, without the head, it has an added air of mystic and elegance. Also, every video with Nick and Laura intensely enjoying macarons is a great video. My favourite is the fraise-basilic (strawberry-basil) a surprising and delicious flavour.

Paris is my favourite capital of all in Europe. I've been there for four times so far and not seen enough! At the last time we said on going in winter because every time the weather was so sunny and nice and we don't feel like going to the museum. So we went in February and the weather was sunny and nice, even warm enough to sit in a cafe on the streets, but we made it to Louvre and museè d'orsay this time to see the Mona Lisa and Monets water lilies for example.

I already did your tour a few years ago i.e. Arc de Triomphe, Eiffel Tower and the Louvre. For the tower, however, we took the elevator and I can well remember that I found the Mona Lisa only moderately impressive in nature. I imagined she would be bigger. As you were Germanized during the years, it would be cool to hear about any culture shocks. ^^ One thing you immediately realize in paris is that a red light for pedestrian doesnt mean anything. Even old grandma who can barely walk, will try to rush over the street while the light is red. It also doesnt matter if that is right infront of a police car. About losing your mobile phone in Paris: I didnt even own a mobile phone until recently and was living close to paris for years: Paris is actually great for running around without proper maps / mobile phone, because you got maps everywhere. You got City maps, you got "History Maps", you got metro maps, and if you dont find anything else: You also got maps on the bus stations which are a bit hard to read. Getting lost is pretty much impossible (ofc if you don't remember where your hotel is, that's a whole different problem). These guys trying to sell you crap are extremely annoying and you can find them in multiple places. Another place I'd recommend is the Montmartre which is also located on a hill with a nice sight. But on the stairs you will likely find some dudes trying to sell you some wristbands, super aggressive.

FYI regarding Copyright: Eiffel, who held the copyright for the tower, died in 1923, meaning it ran out 70 years later, in 1993. At this point, the likeness and design of the tower were allowed to enter the public domain, hence why you can find a replica, built in 1999, in Las Vegas. However, the lights on the Eiffel Tower were installed in 1985, by Pierre Bideau, meaning that any photo or video that shows the monument at a time when the lights are visible (ie, at night) is a violation of copyright law. There’s no general freedom of panorama in France, so a photo of the illuminated Eiffel Tower can be published only with permission. Better blur the images of the Eiffel Tower at night and re-upload the video. Don‘t want to get into trouble for something that stupid.
@OrangeTabbyCat2 жыл бұрын
There are many many videos with the lit tower on youtube and hundreds if not thousands of photos on google. I doubt they take all of that serious but I admit I don’t know much about it.

The snooty French waiter responded with (in heavy French accent) "There is NO ice in Europe". LOL!
