They are shaped like the Choc anun mangos. Sometimes they sell costumers trees different than thought or desired.

Yes, they are similar to Choc Anun. As a matter of fact, I think they are closely related varieties. I bought this NDM#4 from a very reputable tropical fruit tree nursery, so I think it is probably true to variety, but really, as long as the mango tastes good and is good for you, I personally don't care what they call it :-)

Congratulations. I ended up liking the taste of my Nam Doc Mai mangoes much better this season. Last year was the first season it produced and only had about 5 to 7 mangoes.

My NDM produced mangoes last year but all of them cracked and split in half. Have you experienced that? Do you know what cause crack and split? Too much water? Thanks.
@EatThePlants7 жыл бұрын
I heard about that problem shortly after I bought my tree, and yes, I think all the mangoes split before maturing when my tree was very small and still in the pot. It was only a 12 to 15 inch tall twig of a tree at that time. My understanding is that sometimes if it rains a lot or if you water the tree too much that can happen. I have also heard that this behavior might differ between a NDM#4 and the regular NDM variant. I don't water my mango trees after they get to about 1.5 inch in diameter. I haven't really watered it in years, except maybe once or twice per year. I definitely try not to ever water it while fruiting. I have not had any fruit splitting problems since the first season it fruited when planted in the ground.

What do you feed your mango trees ? They look really good and healthy ?
@EatThePlants8 жыл бұрын
Not much really. Only a little organic matter from time to time such as my leaf clippings. I might put down some organic type stuff from a local garden center maybe once or twice per year. Usually something with bone meal, micronutrients, and micro-organisms. Once established, mango trees don't seem to ask for much.

yeah,,the tree is very healthy,,,i think the soil is the main point to growth healthy tree~~~the soil is good enough~
@EatThePlants8 жыл бұрын
Yeah, one of my tests for whether or not I did my job in properly getting the soil healthy for a tree I planted is if I see fat juicy EARTHWORMS within 3 to 10 inches under the ground when I dig into it. The Creator knows much better than us how to take care of fruit trees. I remember a few weeks after building up the soil around the mango trees with organic matter (tree clippings, wood chips, some animal cool manures) huge earthworms were all over the base of the trees even inside the mulch.

Can we get an update on this tree? Also, I would like to know how I can order one.
@EatThePlants8 жыл бұрын
All the fruit for last season was already picked. It actually had one left up until the end of October, which is hard to believe. No mangoes now, just waiting until flowers start coming on in a few weeks in preparation for next season. Otherwise, the tree is looking very healthy and beautiful as usually. I will try to do another video update when flowers show up. Thanks for the interest in the tree. Not sure where you live, but I bought mine from a tropical fruit tree vendor that used to sell at a local market. I think he was buying them from a nursery down in Miami, FL. Search online for tropical fruit tree nurseries in your area and see what you come across. That is probably your best bet for a start.

I live in Southern California. Is the tree on a dwarf rootstock? are they able to ship to cali? I am looking forward to the next video.
@EatThePlants8 жыл бұрын
Yes, the tree is on a dwarf root stock. I am not sure about any shipping restrictions on this mango variety or mango trees in general to Cali. I got this one about 4 years ago from a guy that pre-ordered it for me from some big nursery in South Florida. The tree is a good size now and is flowering heavily at the moment. Hopefully I can get around to doing a video update of it soon. It looks beautiful and healthy.

I farm tropical fruits in madagascar. Ur tree looks good, yet, Im surprised u don't prune the heart. Where do u grow them ?
@EatThePlants7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, other people keep asking me about that too. The tree branches off from very low, so I can pruning out the center will be easy when I decide to do it. The tree is still pretty short and more branches means more fruit at this point. Thanks

Hey bro, where do you get your plants from. I would like to start a fruit tree collection like you have.

Welcome to the channel. I got most of my trees from a couple tropical fruit tree vendors I got to know at the Orlando Fairgrounds flea market about 3 to 4 years ago. I have not been back in a while, and the last time I went, my main vendor was not there anymore. I basically used to tell them what kind of tree I wanted and they would drive down to south Florida to get them from some popular nurseries down there and bring them back up for me. I have also picked up a couple trees from some local nurseries here in Orlando (just using Google) and also made some contacts online. Call up some of the local fruit tree nurseries you find and ask them what they have and if they can special order some things for you. Let us know.

I've even picked up a few things in some of the big box store garden centers. That can be a roll of the dice though, as I try to stay away from GMO stuff.

Great, cool. I'll check them out, I got a mallika mango, sweet heart lychee and a sugar apple and a golden nugget jackfruit from the pine island nursery I am growing. I was looking for other options. You got a good collection man. Enjoy the fruits you have coming. Its a shame most people dont get to try some of the delicious varieties of sub tropical fruits. Cuz most are a 1000 times better than what you get in markets.
