been waiting on this video. that is a very nice tree. I have a small one in the ground.

This one was by far the smallest one starting out (maybe a 1.5 foot tall twig of a plant), but it has outgrown the other "dwarf" varieties by far. Only non-dwarf variety is the Lemon Zest.

Can you do taste review on each of varieties for the trees? And a fruit production review would be great too.

Hopefully I can do something like that Summer time when they ripen up.

Could you do a taste testing video and compare all your mangoes?
@EatThePlants8 жыл бұрын
Might do that in Summer if I get the chance. Thanks for asking.

I have NDM tree and produced last year but all the mangoes cracked and split. Have you experienced that? Do you know why? Too much water? Thanks.

I heard about that problem shortly after I bought my tree, and yes, I think all the mangoes split before maturing when my tree was very small and still in the pot. It was only a 12 to 15 inch tall twig of a tree at that time. My understanding is that sometimes if it rains a lot or if you water the tree too much that can happen. I have also heard that this behavior might differ between a NDM#4 and the regular NDM variant. I don't water my mango trees after they get to about 1.5 inch in diameter. I haven't really watered it in years, except maybe once or twice per year. I definitely try not to ever water it while fruiting. I have not had any fruit splitting problems since the first season it fruited when planted in the ground.

this mango tree how many years already? 4 years?
@EatThePlants7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, probably about 4 years or so. You can check my Playlist video series for this tree to get a more exact date. It should show back to when it was very small.

You should have tipped it early in its life so it doesnt grow so tall

Yeah. Actually a harsh Winter nearly killed this tree years ago when it was very young. That basically pruned the main trunk down to about one foot in height. All of this growth essentially springs from that main trunk, so pruning down the height will be pretty easy with all of my mango trees. I just hate doing it because it reduces the fruit production of that season. I will probably do that soon though, because I don't want them exceeding 15 feet.

I have a mango plantation back in the philippines, and what i do is prune right harvest because it has a whole year to recover and produce new flowering branches. I actually get a better harvest the next season when I do this.

After you harvest, you can just remove the main vertical center part, ( removing the crown ) Its what commercial farmers do here. this allows more sunlight in the center, so helps with disease, and you will still get loads of fruit next season, because the sunlight will be getting to places it did not before. also new stems will grow from the cut, just remove anything going vertical.

Sounds like a good Freddie Cortez, thanks.

Yeah agriperma, that is kinda the route I plan to take. Thanks.
