The sacred River Narmada is a major wellspring and lifeline for the people of Gujarat. The construction of an essential dam to harness its full potential for the benefit of even the most remote corners of Gujarat was proposed by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in 1946, but was only commenced in 1961. The project was fraught with opposition from vested interest individuals and groups and hence suffered from numerous unnecessary delays and restrictions. But the resilience of the people and government of Gujarat ensured that the vital dam was built. The journey was long and taxing, but at the heart of the project were the crucial contributions, encouragement and interventions of Pramukh Swami Maharaj. This thoroughly researched documentary draws upon archival footage and firsthand accounts of government officials, volunteers and swamis to provide an insight into the challenges faced and the pivotal role Swamishri played in securing the successful completion of the Narmada Dam project.
