Everyone keeps saying software engineering salaries are on the decline but Rahul Pandey was able to make 800K at the height of his career at Meta as a staff software engineer. While the market might be cooling from the craziness of the mid 2000's, it's still very possible to get an insanely well paying tech job.

Well, technically he didn't make $800K. He left in early 2022 which means the restricted stock grants he received in 2020 and 2021 (his peak years) were mostly unvested. By leaving early, he lost those shares and money.

Ehh not really replaced. Cognition AI needed the shock value and hype to hoist up their own company; thus, they came out with an “artificially intelligent software engineer”. I can smell the BS a mile away. It’s definitely impressive, but NOWHERE NEAR on the level of human SWEs.

Not true. Look at levels.fyi and you'll see the highest level software engineers can make that.

Very misleading to say that this is not doable today. The top 10% of software engineers are making over $400k still today according to BLS statistics & any other unbiased source.

American salaries overall are crazy not just Silicon Valley. On average, they pay about double the UK/Canada, and Australia averages from my analysis. Although you have to look into which cities and companies pay these top salaries of which there are plenty
