While I can indeed think of a few heroes who can be happy, this bit reminds me of a speech on morality in Ray Bradbury's "Something Wicked This Way Comes": "Sometimes the man who looks happiest in town, with the biggest smile, is the one carrying the biggest load of sin. There are smiles & smiles; learn to tell the dark variety from the light. The seal-barker, the laugh-shouter, half the time he's covering up. He's had his fun & he's guilty. And all men do love sin, Will, oh how they love it, never doubt, in all shapes, sizes, colors & smells. Times come when troughs, not tables, suit appetites. Hear a man too loudly praising others & look to wonder if he didn't just get up from the sty. On the other hand, that unhappy, pale, put-upon man walking by, who looks all guilt & sin, why, often that's your good man with a capital G, Will. For being good is a fearful occupation; men strain at it & sometimes break in two. I've known a few. You work twice as hard to be a farmer as to be his hog. I suppose it's thinking about trying to be good makes the crack run up the wall one night. A man with high standards, too, the least hair falls on him sometimes wilts his spine. He can't let himself alone, won't let himself off the hook if he falls just a breath from grace."

My doctor as well! He has saved my life multiple times and he is actually a bit of a mad scientist. He is testing this new medication he made on himself and it completely fixed the thing it's supposed to treat but it caused potassium build up in his body and his heart went haywire beating way too fast them suddenly stopping. When I scolded him when he got out of the hospital after he said "At least it was tested on me and not an animal or another person.". Dude went into a house fire to save his family, got them out and went back in to try and save his pets and had to be saved by firefighters. He became a blacksmith to conquer his fear of fire from his near death experince. I love him dearly, but sadly he is the kind of person who is going to die trying to save the world. He reminds me of Monty Oum a lot in that the man works 23 hours a day and sleeps only 1. He is a gift from the universe.

Po from Kung Fu Panda. Hiccup from HTTYD. Aang from ATLA. Ben 10 has a good time often. The Mystery Gang is doing good.

Po literally had his family torn away from him as a baby, one that had to cope and relive personal trauma to find inner peace. Hiccup was mocked within a culture of Vikings, being a lovable loser of the pack before being outcast for training dragons. Aang as a *child* was stuck in a cycle of having to save the world as the show's successive equivalent of the Dalai Lama, learning all 4 elements in the process. Ben 10, fair. Scooby-doo is literally set during an economic collapse equivalent to the great depression, as if that's not depressing enough. Most heroes usually take up the job as it's needed to, not because they thought it was a whimsical idea (unless you're the mystery gang).

@@just_gill6113 I think we're looking at different standards here. I'm talking about happy overall. Po moves past that pain and lives a life he loves. Hiccup gained acceptance and has a good life with Astrid by the end. Aang has a fun time throughout the adventures when he's not in danger, which is probably not how the majority of the average day goes. My experience with the Mystery Gang is from Mystery Incorporated, that's all I've seen. I remember them having a pretty good time for the most part.
@just_gill611329 күн бұрын
@@OneDapperFrog The thing is that does count towards happy overall. Their past matters in a way that shaped them, they didn't start out with the happiest of lives to deal with. But yeah, we're looking at different standards here.

@@just_gill6113 in the context "Happy" means "getting a happy ending", Achilles was destined to get killed in battle and he may have survived if he didn't partake in the war of Troy, so he literally couldn't be a hero AND happy. Even if people redraw the scene with their characters that's the meaning. The op of the comment is right because those characters got a happy ending (then again those are kids media but whatever lol), while you described the hardships a hero typically goes through. All heroes have to suffer in some ways to be heroes, but not all heroes have to get tragic endings, that's the meaning
