I was about 40 days old! 😄 I can only imagine how my parents were feeling (their first child), maybe while watching this show! Even though I was too young to remember this still reminds me of my childhood.

I thought Jim Lange did a good job of hosting the 1984 reboot.

george master and Jeanne was on that one too, the first two weeks of that version featuring 14 $100,000 winners from the Tom Kennedy era. Jeanne was one of the 14.

Interesting how the contestants switched from stick mics to lapel mics in the second round and then back. I gather that was because the producers didn't want those lav cables being torn up with all the excited jumping around. But they went with the lavs during "Bid-A-Note" because they picked up more subtleties in the contestants' voices.

The disco dancers just sort of hovering above are what really make this.

27:17 That's some VERY energetic disco dancing, lol.

@@citrusmixer1313 Dennon Rawles was the choreographer and male dancer. The female dancer, Jerri Fiala, was also on The Cross-Wits at the time, pointing to the crossword letters. Cross-Wits was also a Ralph Edwards show.

This aired about a week before my 7th birthday. I bet I didn't know these songs back then, but now I'm killing it! 🙂

The more typical opening catchphrase used from 1978-1981: How many tunes can YOU name in 30 seconds? Two contestants will be playing for the right to win $100,000 in cash on Name That Tune!

27:39 - You'll get a bang out of "The Gong Show." Tomorrow night at 7:30, join host Chuck Barris and the celebrity panel of Carl Valentine, Dorothy Lamour and Jamie Farr as they judge an array of amateur performers who want to entertain in the worst way, and many succeed in doing just that. "The Gong Show" tomorrow night at 7:30 on Channel 7.

I'm surprised at the comments by folks thinking that it was Conrad Bain in the Safeway commercial. He looks NOTHING like Ray Bolger! Not to mention that Bain was only about 55 at the time, & Bolger was 76.

Regis and Meredith Baxter-Birney ;) The way he counts the money is such an audience pleaser. Really never knew that Ray Bolger had done commercials (that's the Scarecrow from Oz talking about Scotch Buy).

@@TheMusiclegends56 BTW - I probably shouldn't point my finger at Tom (RIP), he was most likely fed false information. Not the only time I've caught errors on the part of the NAME THAT TUNE research department. I still loved the show for the most part back in the day.

Thomas Schofield Air dates of syndicated shows back then varied by market, as tapes were "bicycled" from station to station; some medium to smaller markets won't see the episodes until a few *_months_* after their initial broadcast (which explains the airdate on the slates being "TBA")! Even the national spots back then would've been seriously outdated, especially from retailers; who wanted to see a commercial for a Sears Christmas sale aired in *_FEBRUARY_* during Donahue (or Mike Douglas or Merv Griffin)??!!! That practice came to an end when the syndicators transitioned from air/ground distribution to satellite distribution in the 1980's.

I remember this show when it aired on WKYT in Lexington every Tuesday night at 7:30 (the night before The Nighttime Price is Right and the night after Pop Goes the Country) and on WHAS in Louisville every Thursday night at 7:30 (opposite Let’s Make a Deal on WLKY).
