The ( It's this year or that year) approach legitimizes the cultural displacement. When we make these statements; we chose to disregard the damage and simply go with the flow. She is making a very valid point as it pertains to the naming ritual. Your name is not simply a brand so that people can identify you; your name becomes your blueprint and path in which you walk.

Now you can find out your African ethnic group through African Ancestry DNA or area in Africa you are from through Ancestry DNA, to have the right name. Or if you know through geneaology, great. I disagree with some points, but I learned quite a bit.

This is my answer to why , in the States , do we keep the European names given to us when we can freely and legally rename ourselves with afrocentric ones : our story did not end once we were taken from Africa and renamed. Our Ancestry evolved to include African American contributions to society . We fought imperialism in ways other Africans on the continent did not. We have grandmas, great grandfather, uncles who carried these names and were huge contributors of power to our survival and freedom to a certain extent. I think we house loyalty to them... our fathers and mothers of European names and stay following them as honor and fear of separation from our legacy as afrikan decendants of slaves (ADOS ) too. I will not deny the identification with ownership, I'm only adding another layer.

It would be nice to hear a more diverse range of names people carrying them can answer to with personal sentiment. Despite being some mix of Mediterranean/ European, my kin have no relations to any ethno-cultural peoples. In lieu of any desired historical ties, I think people should make their own thing.

The phenomenon of the WHITE-YOU naming system of non-Europeans is very telling. I've always thought it to be quite OFF whenever I meet a Danny Chang...Or a Nigel Krishnamurti. So why would it not be weird or OFF for Black people to be doing the same behavior. The effeminated male that kept speaking up was so annoying.

Peace To my knowledge Bilal Was not a slave, he was Enslaved by Arabs and he was asked to sing the first call to prayer in the very beginning of Islam when Muhammad was still trying to get all of the Arabic Nomadic tribes getting together in one temple. Which many of the tribes did not respect women or black africans and fought Muhammad until they couldn't win and had to submit. The rest saw Islam as a political and social advantage in the world moving forward and used it as an underhanded way to enslave Women and Black africans and other lower class nations.
