These young kids are so technically proficient, but I yearn for a new generation of jazz composers/writers. Chick Corea is known for his chops, but it is really his compositions that are his legacy. Same thing with Hancock and the like. I am too old and jaded to care about all-out speed and chops; Bill Evans's simple lines can bring me to tears; Miles's use of space is brilliant. I hope Molina can step back and think about the song and atmosphere.
