This is exactly how devdasis, The temple dancers of Tamilnadu/Andhra Pradesh, Telangana/Karnataka would wear their sarees while performing this art form, also while performing Andhra Natyam (known for being similar to Bharatnatyam) and Vilasini Natyam( Different style of Telugu devdasi dance). Hell, this is how our Royals and Noble people wore Veshtis and sarees before 19th century
