I remember Christmas 1969, I was in 8 th gr. & my Dad " procured" this album. My neighbor, a Polish lady cried hearing this. I asked, " why Mrs. Frank ate you crying ?" She said Georgie be as dutiful Greek music always makes me cry"...a lost era, that was - - 55 years later.

What a great performance and such a beautiful song. My Dad was a great lover of Greek music, I sort of followed in his footsteps. Nana is an awesome singer, by any measure, The Athenians are a perfect band. It would be nice to know if any of the Athenians are still playing, or still on this mortal coil. Good luck to anyone who connects to this music! Love and peace.

The best performer that I have ever seen in concert. She has the voice and the face of an angel and connects with her audience like no other performer. And I have seen and listened to performers live from Chuck Berry to David Bowie. The only two other performers who ever came close to giving great concerts that touched my heart were Salvatore Adamo and Mireille Matthieu.

Interesting that she would choose to wear glasses when her eyesight clearly couldn't have been very bad at all. This was at a time when even singers and actresses would never allow themselves to be seen wearing glasses in public. Nana proved that you can be beautiful even wearing glasses.
@G6JPG2 жыл бұрын
Wouldn't - except Nana. She made her glasses very much a trademark, such that they became her symbol: they alone (along perhaps with her sinewave hair) were enough for most fans to know who was represented! I think several of her album covers had just the glasses and hair. (Incidentally, I think she _did_ need them - what makes you say otherwise?) There are one or two very early clips on here of her without, from Greek films made when she was very young. (Quite disconcerting to a fan!)
@baronmeduse2 жыл бұрын
She really was short-sighted. Look at her in another (German) video on here from about 1962 where she's singing without glasses while sitting in an armchair; though she has them on in the studeio sectionns where they're walking all around the stage. She said herself she had bad eyesight, which is why she stopped taking off her glasses.

It's about a girl who, instead of working in the fields collecting fruit, she flirts with boys. The mother warns her that she's on a dangerous road, and that the way she's going, not even the unluckiest boy in town will want her... but Irini doesn't care!

Unfortunately, this isn't the proper translation at all. The song is about a mother wondering why her daughter Irini has not arrived at the groves to help picking the oranges. She wasn't there in the morning nor at noon. She was out flirting with boys instead. Her mother is warning her, she needs to find a nice boy and settle on him, because the way she's going, flirting with all the boys, no one will want her (not even some poor soul in the village who her mother insults). Irini doesn't seem to care. This is an early Greek version of Girls Just Want to Have Fun.@@googlesmostwantedfrog147

No, i mariti legittimi sono meglio. Capito, moglie mia (Lena), che vuoi divorziare? Dedico questa canzone alla meravigliosa Nana:

This was taped Oct 15, 1968 and aired Oct 26, 1968. It was the last of the 1968 series (6 shows). Nana & the Athenians appeared with more series in 1970, 71, 72?, 73, and 74 before parting ways. She then did a series in 1976 without them, 2 shows in 1979, and one in 1981. I think the era of Nana with the Athenians was the best, but that's just my opinion.
