Even the HD remaster looks 720p max. Idk why but 2000s anime is almost always cursed in quality.

It was just the reality of anime studios adapting to digital, and not quite having the resources or technique to (consistently) produce something that holds up as nicely as, say, Batman Beyond or Avatar-let alone a Disney or Dreamworks picture. Tv series from around 1997-2002 especially suffer…

So , what version did Netflix have ? I never got to watch it on their site . I'm still pissed that Knights of Sidonia got HDR on Netflix , but no HDR on the Blu-ray set ! Shame on you Sentai ....

I don't know of any video Blu-rays with HDR. That's been relegated to UHD as far as I know.

@@kevindean0000 I was doing some digging around & I couldn't find any either. Strange that LG sold a 1080p TV w/HDR here in the U.S. and had no content for it ! In 2017 Sony even did a firmware update to allow 1080P HDR playback on their TVs . Oh , and Blame ! on Netflix was also a 1080p title w/HDR ....

@@mikek92 I don't think there's anything technologically that would prohibit it on blu-ray, but I think it just may be a backwards compatibility issue in that maybe HDR blu-rays wouldn't play correctly for everyone. I did read there are some 1080p video games with HDR so I suppose 1080p tv compatibility is more about gaming than movies/tv.

There's only so much they can do, due to the limitations of the source. Even if they hadn't decided to upscale it, and did an SD set, I'd still prefer having it on blu ray rather than dvd, just because of the durability of blu ray discs alone

@@RevyTwoHands Given their poor track record with SD-BluRay and the fact that they stopped releasing DVDs in 2019, an upscaled Blu-Ray is probably the best outcome for us as viewers.

Not really that much of a visual improvement if we're being honest.... minuscule changes to the sharpness of the images at best. I could do better just by changing the contrast and saturation settings alone.
