As explained by the lunch lady, no one's been down to Vueko's prison place because the villagers feel some sort of physical pressure of some sorts. Maa went down there with Riko but he threw up after some time. There's probably something about that place that prevents the villagers from exploring it. Riko being an outsider, was the first to find Vueko. You guys wanted to know what happened to that original crew. I'm excited for you guys to find out. But I'm also dreading it. This anime does not pull punches.

Quick note: the theory on the "souls of the children" Bondrewd experimented on being the "children of the village" is a good one, but it was explicitly stated and shown that Mitty's soul was trapped in her hollow form until she was erased. So, sadly, all of Bondrewd's experiments' souls are trapped in their hollow forms at the bottom of that facility.

I'm not sure that we can conclude that, Mitty was a very special case. She was immortal because she absorbed the Curse twofold on the ascent, and since Nanachi was the first to successfully be "blessed", we know no one else made it the entire way up. So they should just be regular, killable Hollows, I don't see how any of them would have survived the flooding at the end of Reg's fight with Bondrewd

@@firstwavenegativity6379 Honestly this is a minor aspect of the series I never thought about but brings some kind of comfort, I guess. I also assumed those hollows are not immortal like Mitty, since her only real reason for being immortal was in that moment with Nanachi her one true desire was not to die, to protect Nanachi from the effects. she was in a sense 'blessed' with immortality by the Abyss, just as she wanted. If the others were immortal too Bondrewd probably would have collected them and done more testing on them like he did with Mitty. He didn't bother so its very likely the had served their purpose and no more could be done with them, and as far as he was concerned probably thought he was doing them a favor letting them live their hollow lives out rather then kill them. But I never considered the fact all that ice and water probably ended the suffering of those hollows that were left down there. Interesting thought.

@@golden--hand I always imagined that Mitty becoming immortal was just the effect of getting hit by the Curse twice, but the idea that it might not always happen and was a product of her desire in the moment is interesting and actually fits really well with what we know about the curse

@@firstwavenegativity6379 Most all of what I am about to say is a theory, so not confirmed by the series really. But MY interpretation of all effects of the Abyss are some kind of 'refinement'. Some minor SPOILER for future stuff this season, and some theoretical stuff, so if you wanna try and figure out on your own, skip the rest. The lower we go the more refined things get. Only people with refined desires make it each level lower. The effects one receive from the Abyss, whether curse or egg-like for example, are more specific and precise in nature. Mitty was refined to her fundamental desires in that moment. Receiving double the dose of curse might have been the true cause but what the conclusion was I think was entirely dependent on what she wanted. Even Nanachi's subconscious desires for herself effected her final form while being 'blessed'. She watched her friend die from the curse, now she has at least some kind of immunity to the curse. She was self conscious about how she looked or wanted to be approachable and now has this form everyone thinks is cute. She used to stink, now she smells great! You could ask, wouldn't Nanachi's desire in that moment be for Mitty to not die or to not become a hollow? Probably. But the Abyss can only formulate your wishes with YOUR body. It can't create things from any other source. We see this in its most obvious form via the Cradle of Desire. Its probably the most clear, obvious form of effects the abyss has shown us as of season 2. No matter your 'wish' it can only take form with your own body. I could say a LOT about the Cradles of Desire, I have a lot of theories about them this season. In the Abyss, you are always the result of your own creation. If you would like to discuss more theories, I'm always happy to with this show :)

Like, they dont say things explicitly but you can just tell there's something scary beneath all this... - And despite all that, Riko is still surprisingly chipper. Well, her shaky voice at the end shows shes beginning to understand how horrific that place is.

You can tell the really uncomfortable themes and stuff are putting some of them off and making it hard for them to focus. Can't blame them either! But great job powering through for the channel anyway. It's a great show with an incredible amount of detail, foreshadowing, and incredible music!

A perpetual seven year old hollow girl, she was not part of the expedition party. Maa is my favorite character in this entire series, fam! Have no idea why, but I love everything about her!

Right! Maaa deeply understood the pain they caused, after having their precious toys destroyed and body have bits ripped off. I'm not real pleased about the punishment, but I am a big fan of the redemption.
