In Australia there is a law that is commonly called the cowards punch law that carries with it a minimum jail term of several years. Essentially if someone comes from behind another person and punchs them and they fall the risk of serious head injury is high- it has resulted in several deaths. The reason for this is that there is a high risk that as they fall they will strike their head on the ground causing brain injury. The risk is higher in females because they have less neck muscle and tend not to be as adept at protecting their heads. In the case of this "foul" if Caitlyn had struck her head on the court surface which being wood is unforgiving she could well have been severely injured. In sports like soccer that have studied concusssion injuries this it has been well established. In a sport like basketball falls are inevitable but this did not occur accidentially during play but was a deliberate action. If this occurred in Australia and a police complaint was made Carter would be looking at a possible 5-6 years jail term.

In presenting it as a "way of sports" that could be true but in this case, is an outright lie. Case in point: Everyone for the assault cheered and even hugged the woman who did the bullying act. If someone fights for a win, they fight for a win in a non-evil way. Competition and games can be tough and rough but there is a line that this act crosses that removes it from the innocence of a rough sportsman(woman)ship.

If you are young and have never seen Lieberman play, or seen Ann Donovan play, look at the YT footage of them playing. They played physical just like men and TOOK their place on the squads they played on. Lieberman on the Lakers squad under Pat Riley was ICONIC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL IN THE MEN’S LEAGUE. I am not supportive of cheap shots, I am supportive of leveling up the WNBA money so that these new young talented women never know what it’s like to drive across country in a van with 8 players to a game, wash your jersey in a motel room sink, drape it out the window of the van so it can dry before your next game tomorrow night. That is what season 1, 2, 3 of the WNBA was like. And it is exactly what it can be again if this nonsense keeps up.
