It's springtime craziness on the farm and I have no time to hit the bench until June, most likely. :( I can watch your stuff at night while I struggle to stay awake and feel like I'm saving up mental stuff until the farm crazy slows down to a dull roar. Thank you!

You might try placing your heavy, bracelet, or ring mandrels onto a sturdy sand-bag, or shot-bag. This will steady the mandrel, and prevent it from rolling and falling away., while allowing it to do it's job, and , it helps reduce the noise from hammering. :D

Thanks so much for this Nancy. Can you solder copper on to the aluminium cuff ? 🤗
@DeerheartStudioArts8 жыл бұрын
I filled two old socks with newspaper rather firmly and tied the ends together and use the to rest and stablize my nandrel when hammering. Don't like to hold in vise cuz it's a hassle to take it in and out to move it. But for cuffs I usually use a bending device I made for myself like the one a woman named Nancy has marketted. I'll comment again when I look up the name. ta ta

ha, ha on me, it is Cindy's Bracelet Bender that I was inspired by (didn't copy, that would be a no no). I used PVC pipe and a wood block which I put in the vice if necessary. Then there is The Flatwearable tool for bending flatwear (duh) into bracelets. Both these tools can bend metal to accommodate the ovoid-like shape of wrists. Enuffa ol dat hamring. Again LUV the intro!

Also,.... (FYI):.... When using ANY metal files, to work on Aluminum, you will prevent the file teeth from CLOGGING up with stubborn aluminum deposits, if you first rub over the entire cutting surface of the file with a bar of hard, hand soap. The soap will act as a lubricant, to prevent the aluminum from clinging onto the file teeth! Try this! Cheers!

I do repairs but i needsome info about other metals like a cuff bracelet that had a gemstone in the small bezel. How can i replace the bezel and which metal will be best also which solder do i use. its not silver
@jaykay4158 жыл бұрын
Nancy, you started hammering the metal from the ends, alternating among the two ends. My inclination would be to start in the middle, and eventually get to the ends. So I'm wondering, is it incorrect to start in the middle? I can imagine that it might stretch the metal more? Or, is it just personal preference? Thanks so much!

Nancy, what are those big huge files you use called. It looks like it makes it so much easier to remove lots of metal, fast!
@NancyHamiltonJewelry7 жыл бұрын
They are mill files. I have a "bastard cut" and a "double cut". I purchased them at the hardware store. Love those big files and they do make removing metal easier! Thanks.

I’m confused Nancy. Easily done! I thought aluminum was the softest metal so didn’t understand why you had to anneal it and had a workout hammering it into shape?
@courtenaykeller35257 жыл бұрын
I'm having a hard time with this....if my silver bracelet is only 18g and 1/2 inch wide (6" long with 1" gap between ends on the back side), how would I harden it? It feels way too soft still after forming. I had to heat it to add a bezel to the top. I'm reading mixed reviews on the idea of tumbling it in steel shot to harden it. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you!! :)
@ingridsaab54137 жыл бұрын
Courtenay Keller, try work hardening by gently hammering with a plastic or leather hammer
