I know I’m late to the party on this one, but I just have to tell you how much I enjoy your videos, both for education and entertainment! It’s refreshing to see metalsmithing videos that aren’t stuffy and stodgy! Your ability to laugh, not take things too seriously, and leave the “mistakes” uncut make for a very pleasant viewing and educational experience! I retired in 2020 (dangerously close to 63 YO now!) and the coin ring/bell/whatever else we can dream up, hobby has drawn me into the vortex, and I’ve learned many tricks of the trade from you! (I’ve always figured we were considered the dregs of the jewelry world by the purists, but it’s too late in my life cycle to up my game to actual jewelry! Ha!) Happy New Year!

Having just bought a disc cutter, this was perfect for me and Zina. Thanks Nancy. Ultra useful.

Thank you Nancy - it's nice to see several options for getting the perfect 90 degree cut on metal and the limitations of the miter jig. Love your demos, keep up the good work.

I would just like to say thank you for this great video, but I wish one thing: that the manufacturers of disc cutters whose cutters require a shim to be used, should include a shim set (could be copper or brass). They could be riveted together and labelled as to gauge. Then you'd always have the shim you need.

I know this is an older video but thank you! I am currently using one that is not much better than harbor freight's. Have you been happy with the Ikohe cutter?

Hi Nancy! I have the Ikohe and came upon a problem after about a year. The whole thing got jammed up and I couldn't get the 2 plates apart. What we discovered is that from time to time we have to tighten the two side screws to keep the 2 plates straight. We noticed that the 1 inch cutter went in fine but the smallest one would not and vice versa. If we tighten the screws with the smallest and largest cutter in place, it works great. Darn! I really wanted on excuse to buy the Swanstrom!! :)

Hi, thank you for your video. I'm just wondering if you have a video on how to make off center washer earrings that look like hoop earrings. I'm having a time trying to get the measurement just right for both earrings. Thank you.

I've found this Ikohe disk cutter on Otto Frei. I'm getting it eventually. This cheap $35 disk cutter just doesn't cut it, in more ways than one.

I have the el cheapo cutter and have hated it from the get-go lol. I really want a gooooood one now. :) Thank you for another wonderful video. I really look forward to your lessons.

Interesting, isn't it, how many people are not fond of the cheap cutter. Hmmm....Check out Rio Grande and Otto Frei for decent prices on decent cutters. Do you have any metal to refine? If so, that could offset the cost. Rio does refining and you can apply scrap for credit. Just a thought. Take care. N

Thank you, Nancy! Another great video from you and one that I need to one day (soon I hope) purchase my first disc cutter. I've seen the one at Harbor Freight but was cautious because it was so inexpensive. Thanks to you I now know the kind I really want. I will need to save more money but what else is new when it comes to good tools. :) Perhaps I can buy my mallet first and feel I'm getting somewhere. I'm really excited to make your metal beads that you showed us in the video. I clicked on the area about the metal washer tutorial and it said Private. Did I click on the wrong spot or do you have private videos for students? I'd love to be your student! Thanks again, Nancy and as always it was a pleasure and a great learning experience. Ciao!

Hi Helen. First off: Thanks so much. Second: the video on the solderless beads won't be released until (approx.) next week. I'm too crazy busy right now to deal with it. Teaching this weekend AND setting up the studio to accommodate 6 students. Crazy busy. Enjoy that mallet! I love mine - so versatile. See my response to Deborah Miller, a few comments down from yours. Thanks again. N

Nancy Hamilton Thanks so much for taking time from your busy schedule to reply. You're so sweet to all of us who follow you because you always "make" time to answer our questions. I feel guilty asking you something because I know you'll break your neck practically to answer back to us. I admire you tremendously because of all those qualities that go into who you are. Plus, you're such a sweetheart who makes me laugh!

Good video, as always, Nancy. I'm thinkin' these companies that you mention by name should give ya gift certificates since so many of us follow ya! (Lisa is doing great work, too. Especially the close ups.)
@NancyHamiltonJewelry11 жыл бұрын
Kiss, kiss Chuckles! No one wants to give me money! Dang. That Lisa - too bad her employer doesn't get her a camera that DOESN'T blur when she zooms in. But, 2600.00 is a bit too steep for a pro-camera - especially with me not getting any money and all! Nurbs

One question. I have a friend who told me her cutters (she has the el cheapo one too lol) are getting short from sharpening them over the years. Have you heard of doing this?
@NancyHamiltonJewelry11 жыл бұрын
Hi Deborah, I have never heard of sharpening the cutters but, it makes sense. The things I don't know could fill the Atlantic Ocean! I'll have to look into it. More stuff to learn - always. Thanks. N
