Simply stunning hula by Uncle Frank.So sensitive and precise and he clearly loves telling the story.I cried too; I miss my Kaua'i Nei so much - have been off Island way too long.

It has probably taken Kumu Frank whole life time to become an overnight success! Most of us are neanderthals compared to him; however when I am in Honolulu I never miss those sunset concerts in Waikiki near the banyan tree.It is such a treat to watch the kapuna dance with such economy of movement, and with such joy.It is in their blood, same as Kumu Frank.No entirely off topic,In the TV show " Kung Fu" part of Kwaikung(sp?) Kane's training was learning to walk on rice paper without tearing it;

Fear can be a good thing aprapo learning a new skill; either you face it or run away.In my case it was not debilitating;I felt like all my senses were involved.Moving in a different way is always challenging.Learning new skills from a master like Kumu Frank would be an honor.You know the saying - when the student is ready the teacher appears.It may not be Frank Hewitt but at least you will be on the path that leads you there.Stay in touch Keiko :-)

How do Kung Fu masters ( and their students) stand on uncooked eggs without breaking them? three words come to mind - desire; disipline and dedication.For example, I have been taught an ancient form of lomi by Hawaiian kumus.For much of the time in the early days it was the " wax on polish off" method ( Karate Kid ).Even when I go to advanced training in the mountains, we are challenged in many ways that keep our skills current and our minds sharp.Wax on polish off.

Aloha eltiagorico and mahalo for your query.Frank Kawaikapuokalani Hewitt is indeed a Kumu hula .As such you can be certain he conducts a Hula Halau.From memory he resides on the Island of Kaua'i, but don't quote me.Uncle Frank is also an accomplished musician and writer of mele.Google him for more information.Nani Kaua'i is a sweet mele about the island I love. Google the mele - it is in the huapala site (huapala.org/nani/Nani_Kauai.html. )
