This game surprised me with how much I enjoyed it, mainly it's because of the look of the game and it's over all aesthetic, but the hack n slash combat here isn't terrible either!

I want yo clarify something on the grappling mechanic of the game. You can actually choose what to grapple. You just hold the button down and a target on each grappleable thing appears. You choose your target, and then let go of the button to grapple. This ensures that you dont grab the wrong thing.

PS2 era Konami made 3 of my very very favorite games of all time Silent Hill 2 and MGS2 and 3. They were awesome back then, or at least they had a lot of awesome talent working for them at the time PS2 Castlevania games feel like the might be underrated. I’ve never played any, but i looked up a couple recently, and they look right up my alley actually.

Thx for checking this out it looks awesome I gotta say man Aesthetic is really important to me to that’s why I love shadow of the colossus so much and ps2 has a lot of these kind of games like nanobreaker and even the ps2 startup has a nice aesthetic that’s why it’s my favorite console and the messed up part about nano breaker is some people say it’s oil that looks like blood. But this game looks good I never really play these obscure games much I watch videos on it and find out about it but I gotta play games like this sometime soon also this game probably Paved the way for games like metal gear rising but in the same time nanobreaker has its own style

Hey thanks for watching, dude! And thanks for telling me about the game. Yeah aesthetics go a long long way don’t they? The PS2 era is full of games that are very interestingly designed! It’s why it’s my favorite generation of games. I hear you with Shadow of the Colossus, a perfect example of great aesthetics! I will say though the “blood” is actually “oil” in Nanobreaker but really in name only, I feel it’s obviously supposed to be blood then they just decided to call it oil for whatever reason.

Thank god this one stood up, it's always a speedrun to watch a video of yours before it shuts down xD As for the game, input queuing is also a thing in Dark Souls and some other game, annoying but it teaches reflexes and to plan each move carefully without overcommiting. From what I see, a fair review seems to be "Jetstream Sam plays Dante's role in a Konami ripoff of DMC", and not necessarily to its detriment: widely used ingredients but mixed in a unique way can go a long way
@machinejuice5965
@machinejuice5965 4 жыл бұрын
lol thanks dude. Yeah this time there wasn’t some sort of weird copyright thing that took the video down. And you’re totally right. The input queues in Dark souls are what beat it into my brain that I can’t just mash all my inputs. I used to overcommit all the time, now when I play something like this it just feels natural. That IGN review I mentioned talked complained about it a bunch, which I found kinda funny. Also dang I love that description of of the game lol that’s perfect, well put dude. Sure most aspects of the game are derivative of other games, but there done in a way that makes it at the very least worth the like 8 hours I spent with it. Plus though pretty graphics are nice. Thanks for always watch my guy!!!!

@@machinejuice5965 yeah, I stopped giving too much attention to reviews (especially those with scores) a long time ago; it's the same with life partners: we can and should enjoy them despite their flaws, as long as it hurts nobody, and shouldn't be ashamed for liking something outside of mainstream appeal (hell, I still think Star Wars Ep.I got too much undeserved hate, both movie and game, if that's not telling of me xD ) Anyway, as a teasing friendly reminder and since Konami was mentioned, I'd like to try to sell you again on playing 10k Bullets, if anything for some trivia I discovered (for those who don't know, it's basically "The Matrix dressed in God Hand's mood, but without the same... punch." *ba dum tss* The main director is the father of Suikoden 1, 2 and 3, and this game is the first and last he directed indipendently following his departure from Konami, with just some minor stuff on record afterwards... until recently, when I heard he's coming back with an admittedly uber-promising spiritual successor of Suikoden with the help of a couple other ex-Konami veterans; I guess after Kojima's squad, IGA and Team Silent we can safely say Konami's children are up for grand things when freed of shackles Even if you are not going to play it soon I think searching for info on it you'll end up discovering other obscure, vintage gems, it did with me ^^ Hope I got you on your ear, meanwhile see you the next upload that will stay up :P

I like comparison you made about life partners, being able to acknowledge and the accept flaws is a very good concept you could apply to lots of stuff in life. As far as video games and other art forms go though the majority of my taste kinda lay outside mainstream appeal. And often I gravitate towards stuff, because it’s different or subversive. It’s like searching for buried treasure, the process it self is fun to me. And I find that the stuff that has the most impact on me and feels thoughtfully crafted almost always lays outside the norm. Plus I just live weird shit. Lol all right all right I’m sold, I’ll check out 10k bullets. Well said. I just watched some gameplay, and yeah I mean this does look right up my alley. This is the type of game I’m looking for. Thank you for reminding me about it! Also on a side note, I am pretty interested in trying to get into Suikoden, and Eiyuden Chronicle looks very interesting to me. Gotta try to play at least one Suikoden game before that one comes out! Also It really is exciting and awesome to see some of the talented creators that worked for Konami doing well. Thanks always watching, dude it is much appreciated

God I love the PS2 era. Games like this are why backwards compatibility needs to be a necessity since underrated or overlooked gems like this with no hope of any sort of rerelease are destined to be forgotten to time. That just blows man. Fuck, I had no idea of this games existence until this video. I love the variety in art and aesthetics that the 6th gen offered. So many unique looking and playing games that, for the most part, ran really well and had a target of 60fps. A rarity in modern times. Also I cant place my finger on why but the animations of this game remind me heavily of ZoE2.

The 6th Gen was truly the golden age of gaming I think. It was before companies knew what games would truly sell and thus they were open to taking more risks when it came to games. Sure not all of them got popular or discovered but it's just the fact that they tried that made the 6th Gen the golden age of gaming after the 5th gen laid down the foundation to build upon. There's no question that the diversity in art and aesthetics sorta was lost in the 7th gen which was so sad to see.

I remember this game! Well not because I played it but because I remember seeing it featured on the show Cinematech and I think X-Play reviewed the game as well. This is going back to like the early-mid 2000s on the G4Tech channel when it was genuinely a channel dedicated to Video Games. I think X-Play mirrored what that IGN review said saying the game was generic and bad Devil May Cry clone but I remember when I got to see more of it's gameplay on the show Cinematech, it actually looked pretty fun for a hack-and-slash fan. The main thing I remember about the game was that I thought that the main character looked like the character Xion from Bloody Roar 3 / Bloody Roar Primal Fury. Needless to say, I wanted to play this game but it was so hard to find it. I definitely want to play this game sometime and now I can so it's on my list. I do understand what you mean when you were gushing about how much you love the game's aesthetic. It's okay, we get you, I feel the same way as well when it comes to these old PS2 games and it's cool to meet others who actually appreciate and like these old games and not think of them as "gross" and "outdated". I think that the PS2 era graphics looked great and from a stylistic perspective, held up very well .What you said about how you like this game's aesthetic is kinda how I feel about the Devil May Cry 1-3, Onimusha trilogy, Soul Calibur 3, Castlevania Lament of Innocence / Curse of Darkness, Blood Rayne 1 & 2, Silent Hill 2 + 3, Reisdent Evil 4 or The Jak & Daxter games, Prince of Persia Trilogy, and many other PS2 games. I think that the graphics were at a point where they looked nice enough while still oozing character and aesthetic and I'd even go as far to say that I preferred the graphics style of the 6th gen over the 7th gen when they were trying to make games look as realistic as they could. Personally I play games to get out of reality and I just always preferred these stylized half realistic, half cartoon (or Japanese anime) styles a lot more. Anyway awesome review. I'll definitely be checking this game out sometime.

Ok first off, THANK YOU for reminding me about the show Cinematech! I totally forgot about this show, this is a giant nostalgia trip. Theres a bunch of volumes on youtube I'm about to jump down this rabbit hole Yeah it sounds like we're on the same page when it comes to our taste in aesthetics in games. I love that crazy inventive and weirdly ridiculous character and world designs that the 6th generation provided. All those games you mentioned are perfect examples. Though I will say even though game developers in the 7th gen moved away from that inventive design, in modern day there is a lot of creativity in game aesthetics these days, generally from the indie world. But they still lack that flavor of "PS2" that is so awesome. Thanks fopr watching and sharing! Always fun to hear somebody's love for this stuff
@decadentgamer3108
@decadentgamer3108 3 жыл бұрын
@@machinejuice5965 Haha yeah thank goodness someone actually re-uploaded those Cinematech episodes in the form of a compilation, it was such a cool show for it's time and it featured so many games that are now niche just like Nanobreaker. Oh and I agree that the current 8th gen has been a pretty good time for creativity in art direction and style in video games that the 7th gen was lacking big time and I'm so glad to see this kinda revival happening, well sorta. But yeah the indie scene especially has been helping with this itch but it does make sense because a lot of these indie developers were fans of the 4th, 5th, and/or 6th generation of gaming and it shows in some of their games which is just awesome but with that all said, I just feel the 6th generation was a true peak golden age as far as the mainstream went since like I mentioned earlier, there was this openness for experimentation. I mean as an artist myself, art style is a big thing for me and I just always preferred cartoony and or 50/50 (Semi Realism + Fantasy/Anime/etc.) and it's why so many mainstream games of the 7th generation like say Assassin's Creed, The Last of Us, Red Dead Redemption, Uncharted, Heavy Rain, Infamous, Mass Effect, etc. While I know that these games were known for their stellar character writing/stories, I just couldn't get into them because stylistically they were looking too realistic and it just turned me off and I suppose I just missed the uncanny valley kinda vibe that the 6th generation had with it's typical art style haha. It's hard to explain but yeah, very cool to find others who appreciate the past and not afraid to continue playing games from it 9+ years later.

Decadent Gamer Yeah cinematech is sick, I’m gonna watch these to discover/ remind me about games from that era. G4 was a huge part of what made me really fall in the with games, I gotta give it up to that programming lol. I really enjoyed it, and Cinematech is such a weird trippy kinda show it’s really cool to watch now in 2020. It kinda adds to the vibe the we’re going for in a way. But yes the 6th gen was the golden age of creativity in the mainstream. 8th gen is just more “aesthetically diverse” than the 7th generation, so I’d say we’re moving in a favorable direction. BUT the 6th gen style of art design just has that specific flavor that’s unique to itself that can’t ever really be replicated. It’s a product of its time in such an endearing way. Even certain gameplay aspects have that endearing quality. Like some of the gameplay mechanics in the 6th generation were not timeless ideas like for example “PS2 hack n slash” style of game is a kinda dead genre. But because of that it makes these games feel like there buried by time, like a cozy little pocket of the past or something lol. One of the many reason I dig that time period of games. I’m an artist as well! That makes sense that we see eye to eye on this stuff. I’ve played so many bad games, watched bad anime/movies, read shitty manga SOLEY because I liked it’s art style/direction/aesthetics lol. I’ve also done the opposite! It sounds like we have similar taste in aesthetics, because all those games you mentioned from the 7th gen I find hard to go back to because they look so “boring” so bland and too realistic (mass effect has a cool alien designs though, but the humans are hideous lol). And yes there is a charm to that “uncanny valley” 6th generation art style. Yeah hey that’s watching and writing stuff. I don’t know many people irl who’s as into this shit as much as I am, so it’s pretty enjoyable to be able to share the love with others who can appreciate it. So thanks!!!

@@machinejuice5965 Yeah it was such a shame when G4 eventually went downhill when they started phasing out all the Video-Game centered shows for constant re-runs of Cops, Cheaters, and Ninja Wariror. I mean thankfully KZbin became the next best thing for Video game content so I suppose everything worked out but I' think we can all agree that it was cool to at least experience the days before social media/KZbin really blew up and that for us Video Game lovers, we had the G4 channel to feel some sort of connection to Video Games outside of events like E3 haha. Yeah I agree that the current 8th generation is "aesthetically diverse" and I'm loving it but yep, the 6th Generation will always have that special kind of quality that most likely will never be seen again, at least not in the mainstream anyway. I'm sure that in the indie scene as more game making software advances, we may see a Renaissance of the 6th gen style become a thing like how we saw for the 4th generation with the 16-bit type games and even some 5th generation PS1 style indie games. And awesome to hear you do art too. Yeah I think that artist can definitely find some appreciation for otherwise mediocre media that make up for it with a unique or appealing art style and I'm so glad there are others who understand what I mean by how a lot of the mainstream 7th generation games can be boring. Like I really wanted to get into Assassin's Creed but the art style was so boring. I can respect it for the intricate details but the overall aesthetic of trying to mimic real life just pulls me out of it lol And same with Uncharted. I really need that uncanny valley vibe that was present in 6th gen lol Oh and you're welcome, I'll definitely check out some of your other videos for sure. :)

Decadent Gamer I think there is a possibility of there being a renaissance of the 6th gen style, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is a giant Jet Set Radio love letter. I know that’s not 6th gen but it was one of the early adopters of the cell shaded style, and that was the most popular in the 6th gen! Maybe that’s a bit of a stretch, but ya know lol. You really smell what I’m cooking over there, dude, and that’s awesome! The average gamer and games media seems to me to be generally very unwilling to give credit or praise to more aesthetic/ stylistic/ visually creative aspects of games with other wise boring and bad other aspects. Throwing the baby out with the bath water lol! Though rarely would I argue a game with a terrible story and gameplay is worth playing, because of it’s aesthetics alone to the general video game enjoyer. I will say more often then not that is the case for me. I’ve played so many mediocre games and loved them just cause the look pretty Thanks again for writing this stuff up, it’s was an enjoyable read. Thanks again for watching!!! The kicker is that the antagonist literally looks like Sephiroth too. The best part about Chaos Legion is the end credits music, you go through one of the darkest and edgiest stories ever only to be greeted with the most uplifting j rock track ever and when I say uplifting, I'm talking about one of those anime songs with lyrics like "believe in yourself" it doesn't mesh well at all with the game but the irony of it is what makes it great since the game is so dark and serious 100% of the time.

Thanks for the review. Don't like the backing track, though. Especially for 16 minutes.

Found this game on Amazon for $22 last one had to get it. Not bad. Not even a bad game. Though I kind of question why the enemies look fallic AF

Interesting it reminds me of metal gear rising: revegeance or maybe a inspiration from it.

This is a precursor to metal gear rising which makes considering Konami is behind that with platinum games, but this is them doing character action with IGA being the producer

For me this game is a 5/10, it has a repetitive combat, lazy boss fights and it's just boring most of the time. Although it's pretty interesting that odd vibe the game has, like you said. It's only enjoyable if you're into obscure stuff.

Mate Oh for sure. Everything you said is totally valid. Yes, it really is ONLY enjoyable to me, because I live and breathe this type of weirdo obscure stuff lol

I’m a big fan of beat ‘em ups like this. 4.5 by ign? It’s like they only played the demo and gaslighted everyone.
