Nanoleaf Essential Light Strip Review

The Nanoleaf Essential Light Strip is probably the most interesting light strip to come out recently. It’s not because it does anything particularly special, but rather because like the Nanoleaf Essential light bulb, it is priced well below the competition, and more importantly, because it runs on Thread.
Honestly the only downside right now to the Nanoleaf essential light strip is that it is Thread based, because unless you have a HomePod Mini you’re not going to be terribly thrilled by the response times.
But if that doesn’t bother you, or you already have a HomePod mini or plan to get one in the near future, then the Nanoleaf Essential Light strip is the new HomeKit Light Strip to beat.

Very suprising that, nanoleaf, of all companies, would make such a great strip for the price.

I've had a great experience with the Nanoleaf Essential Light Strip! They're super vibrant and add such a fun, customizable glow to any room. The setup was a breeze and I love playing around with all the colors and effects.

Question regarding thread ... in the Nanoleaf App do you see your Homepod mini in the "Thread Network"? I have 9 Nanoleaf bulbs and they all show up in the app in the thread network but I don't see any of my 5 Homepod minis? Do yours show up in the Nanolead app?

So if I have an area to cover of about 114ft in the ceiling, it sounds like I should not use this strip since I'd need so many strips

Which V-channel works best with Nanoleaf's 15mm (1.5cm) wide strip? Other LED's are 10mm (1cm) wide and so are all of the V-channels I can find...

I have the light bulbs and looking to possibly get a strip or two but I'm still a bit confused on the thread and haven't had much luck with support on better clarification. Once I get a thread device can I use these to voice command on both Amazon Alexa and Google home at the same time? Asking because people in my house downstairs use Alexa and I use Google home upstairs.

Nice video. I have Meross Light Strip and they are HK ready, and half the price. Other than not being Thread technology ready, any other comments?
@TechTechMoreTech
@TechTechMoreTech 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I don’t have any direct experience with Meross but based on their product page they are only single RGB LED on the strip (no white colors) vs the RGB CC WW on the Nanoleaf. They don’t mention CRI anywhere so I assume it’s not very high (CRI measures color accuracy). Perfectly fine for the price, but not quite the equivalent of Nanoleaf or Hue/Lifx/Eve. Hope that helps!

The perimeter of the tv is roughly 124” (including the bottom), the standard Lightstrip is 80” long so you will need one the 40” extensions as well

Now that I think more about it. Perhaps you can just get away with using it via Bluetooth. I think that’ll work, and you won’t need anything else. I know the hue lights have Bluetooth for that usecase, but I haven’t verified that these will work the same way

the most important thing, really! in standby the 2meter Nanoleaf Essentials Lightstrip require only 0.3W. With light on it take between 4,7 and 7W only. The extension 1meter add just 2W!! My Vocolinc 5mt "On" is about 15/2W and 4,7W in stanby! about the same for Merros. So, the "real" smart house must also be efficient in terms of energy consumption! the Thread is the best way to save energy!

This device sucks. It can only show 1 color at the same time. There are no animations, no chaser light, no blinking, nothing. Only 1 color. Super lame, since the Nanoleaf Aurora is perfectly capable of animations.
